As per title, am off for a weekend to relax, and unwind. Will be heading to Betws-y-Coed first, went there earlier in the year and loved the place. Then I am off to Holyhead, as I've always wanted to head there.

The thing is, I have no idea where to eat .. I love seafood, and fine cuisine. If someone can give me a few pointers / links, that would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

There are a couple of hotel/restaurant places in Betws...as well as a few smaller 'touristy' places - most do good, plain food, catering for the walkers, climbers and cayakers that frequent the area...just get a guide-book from one of the many Outdoor specialist shops...

Up the road is the Pinnacle Cafe at Capel Curig (right on the crossroads) - does a fab 'Full-English', plus cup of tea in Huge Mug - my souvenir mug is on the table next to me as I write, in fact - now 15 years old and repaired several times with araldite...lol

Seafood would be better in the coastal towns...

Thank you

I've been digging out what I have on Bewts-y-Coed, and will see what comes-up. When I was there last time, loved the seafood, which I understand is better in coastal cities .. but they sure did some fantastic stuff there.

Any ideas for Holyhead? I've found The Lobster Pot, but have no clue how good this place is?

araldite :); miss that ... dad was always proud to use that mix. to glue everything in our house

Excellent

Please keep the ideas flowing in.

I highly recommend the Tyn-y-Coed for food.
On the A5 between Betws and Capel Curig.
Huge interesting menu - the menu is so appealing I usually struggle to choose from at least half the items.
The food lives up to the hype on the menu and you get decent portions at reasonable prices. It's even got decent beer.
Very popular with outdoors types so need to get there early to be sure of getting a table.

If you like landscape photography then you won't go wrong with Newborough and Ynys Llandwyn (check the tides). I was dead chuffed with my images taken earlier this summer.

To be honest fine food and North Wales don't really go together unfortunately...I've lived here 10yrs and still struggle to find somewhere decent to eat

The good news is that pretty much anywhere you travel around Snowdonia and Anglesey has some terrific scenery so photography won't be a problem - I've created a few "photography guides" on my website which you're free to browse if you want (in the North Wales Tourist Information tab)

i was going to say that!

if you go to rhosneigr beach there tends to be alot of people kite surfing which is nice to photograph or just sit and watch

May pass by there, not sure yet of that. Will keep a watchful eye for these .

Thanks.

Do you, by any chance, know the name of the place, or a post code?

And thank you for the tips of the two locations :).

Last time I was up there, the seafood was fantastic. As a seafood lover, I am very hard to please as my pallets can very easy distinguish fresh from frozen. I was amazed by the quality, hospitality and variety we had.

As for scenery, spot on. Actually, it's the whole of Wales that amazes me. Hence why I keep coming back  .. even the strong downpour we're having right now .. just amazing

Wail - Here's a link to Tyn-y-Coed. You can download their regular menu so you get an idea of prices but I've always ordered from the specials board which usually has about 8 main courses on it.

Here's a link to Llandwyn. You have to park in Newborough warren to walk out to Llandwyn. The wooded dunes and marram grass around the car park are pretty good but Llandwyn is a photographic jewel. It's not just the iconic lighthouses, celtic crosses, ruined church, workers cottages amongst the sand and the big surf on the golden sand - but the rock! It's some of the oldest rock in Wales and comes in lurid reds and greens as well as the usual colours. Well worth taking a macro lens and going for some abstract piccies.

Here's one of the Marram grass.

Here's one of the larger lighthouse at sunset

Duncan,

Thank you so much for the feedback, and the links  ; this makes it a lot easier for my lazyself :p.

Anymore pointers, please :)?

Hi again,

Just re-read your original post & see you mention Holyhead..if your time is limited then Holyhead itself really isn't particularly nice, at least compared to pretty much everywhere else on Anglesey - the only reason to drive that far onto Anglesey is to go to South Stack as already mentioned.

To get the best from any visit to Anglesey you need a bit of "leg work", the coastal path is just stunning in places - it can rival anything Cornwall has to offer (yes, seriously). My suggestions for Anglesey are:

Llanddwyn Island - worth a re-mention, it's terrific
Coastal path between Church Bay & Carmel Head (need to walk)
Penmon Point... limited stuff to see but great for photography
Coastal path between South Stack & Trearddur Bay
Beaumaris if you like a few shops and the view across the Menai Straits to Snowdonia is nice

Don't bother with Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch unless you like Edinburgh Wool shops as that's all there is & about 10 coaches full of tourists taking photos of a sign!!

Fantastic, thank you for all that information. Saved me the trip to Holyhead.

Now, time to flick to AA route planner and see how much of all that I can fit in the one day.

How on God's Earth do you remember how to spell that correctly?

"Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysilio gogogoch"

Trying to pronounce it is hard enough. ;)

I stopped here the last time I was in Anglesey, and there's a souvenir shop as well as the Edinburgh Wool Shop, as Simon mentioned. There was a train station here - don't know whether trains are still running or not - but not much else really.

That cafe was a regular weekend haunt when I was stationed at Brize between 93 and 95. The all day breakfast was ace :D

Thanks folks. I guess I have pretty much the whole weekend planned now :)

Time to go and pack my carry-on.
