Im off to Austria soon with a mate our cameras and a hire car.

Anyone got any suggestions for places to visit / photo, bearing in mind i will be on crutches at at the time :(

Vienna!
I love it, lots of history and culture.
Plenty of neo-gothic architecture to tog.
There is also the Zentralfriedhof cemetery where quite a few classical composers are buried and plenty of fantastic memorials there to tog.
Austria's most famous pop music export (Falco), who had a hit in the 80's with a song called 'Rock Me Amadeus', is also buried there and his tombstone is very bizarre and well worth togging.
St. Stephens cathedral is an amazing building as well.
Although it's not cheap, a trip in a horse drawn carriage is well worth it as the guide will point out all the interesting places including Beethoven's house.

I've not been since I've got into DSLR photography but as my good lady has family history there, we plan on going back soon.

Saltzburg! The salt mine where you can go down a huuuugge slide! :D on crutches should be fun!, Went there when I was at school!

Sorry! It is a lovely place though, even if you give the slide a miss. :)

Salzburg is a lovely place. The obvious is to visit the fortress which a must see. You can hire an iPod type device for an audio tour. It's only a few Euros and is well worth the money, not like the boring, rip-off tours you get at other places - it's interesting and informative. The view from the top of the fortress is very impressive and unobstructed from a 'togging point of view.

If you have a car then I would recommend popping over the border to Berchtesgaden. You can visit the Kehlsteinhaus which will offer you the most spectacular views you are ever likely to see. I've been there and it's incredible, both as a viewpoint and a feat of engineering. You will need to check with the tourist office in Berchtesgaden first though as the house closes in early/mid Autumn dependant on the weather. It's also not worth paying the entrance fee if the cloud base is low as you won't see a thing, (and you will get wet!)

Enjoy Austria, it's wonderful. Don't forget you ticket for driving on the motorways though. Hefty fines if you don't have one and the police hang around the borders and airports waiting to nick unsuspecting tourists!

i don't do singing - well only in the car ;)

have fun. Why you on crutches? (if you dont mind me asking)

I have pain in my right hip, restricting my mobility which isn't fun, the pain killers on the other hand ;)

Have a great time, and I hope the hip doesn't hinder too much. Vienna is great with all sorts of oppo's for shots. As are probably anywhere in the mountains really...
