Off to a wedding in a bit, my first one since picking up my E-500. Cant wait :D

Did one before and ended up using my camcorder (piccies on my website - see profile)

Any tips? its going to be in a hotel so presumable a wideangle for light.
Do you think i should use AE-bracketing?

I'll be shooting RAW i think too though not too sure on that as i might miss a shot as it saves the files.

enjoy it most of all,

but try and avoid harsh light on such a nice day , try and use a flash on all ur pix, especially if you have an off-camera one,

get in as close as possible, fill the frame, although you can crop later ,
take a quick review of pics to make sure you have no ' closed eyes ' in the shots, my advice for these is take two shots one after another, one will usually be better than the other for several reasons

make sure the battery is fully charged, have spares and dont forget ur memory cards

Oh yeah clsed eyes had that prblem a couple of times

Got two batteries, and some spare CR123a's
Two cards aswell. Packed and ready, i'll probably end up forgetting the camera

cool, sounds like ur sorted,

one other thing i have found at weddings, everyone takes pix of the ' set peices '

by all means do the same,

but also try and get in some candid ( non posed ) pictures of the bride and groom, also the other guests,

you could also concentrait on the brides maids and other principle guests, as these have a tendancy to ' hang back '

If you're shooting RAW you won't need to worry about bracketing, as long as the camera exposes near enough you can sort any problems later in the conversion.

Been a lovely day for it i must say, hope it went well for you

Total disaster. Well for the pics anyway, but had a fantastic day & evening.

Firstsly it was too hot. Was in my suit and dripping of sweat.
then in was a country manor house so my hayfever hit a new high
Was encouraged to drink as much beer as possible so i was drunk and dehydrated.
i just put the camera in my room and relaxed. Didnt take a single pic.
They had the official photographer so wasnt an issue. BTW she charged £5000
And she nowt special. IMO anyway.

so there you go, next time i hope :D

She did a couple of the usual shots of family by the bushes. Couple of the B&G around the grounds and one of the group from the first floor. All in the shade.
I was worried TBH when sh started taking shots of the B&G standing with their back to the window. She didnt use a flash at all either, not even inside.
She did have a couple of canon badboys, dunno which ones mind.

do you know the name of the lady?

ohh

shes good...

A bit slant mad, but very competent as you'd expect. £85 for a 7X5print! LOL. I think I'm coming out of retirement.

Some of them are great, but most i dont like.

Her wedding photography i thought was poor, with one or two outstanding shots. She takes loads and loads so suppose some must hit the mark. (not knocking that, great way to do it)
To be honest i think this may be her first few gigs this summer. She didnt do what all the others do and had others with her taking pictures aswell so most of them probably arent even her pics. She was quiet and doing odd thing like photograph into the sun and having people up against the window (which she did change after a several shots). She didnt even check her shots were ok.
I like to observe and take in and stand in awe what photo peeps are doing and have done at several weddings this year but for me i was worried that her shots were even going to turn out.
Some of her art stuff is way better.

my tupence

EDIT: she was £1000 before the summer BTW, dont know what she did to deserve the pay increase

In all fairness, she's well competent, and people don't pay 5K unless you're in demand. We have a local photographer who charges mega money for weddings and portraits, who has won every major award every year for years. She's simply bloody brilliant, and she has assistants who she's trained who've won major awards in their own right. You don't necessarily get her personally ...despite her prices.;)

She doesn't care how long the photos take or what time people sit down to eat, she only has one concern and that's the photos. She'll keep people waiting endlessly while she arranges poses, changes filters, whatever it takes. It doesn't seem to stop her getting work.
