Yes
I know you'll only worry if I don't tell you - we're off later today for two days in Venice followed by a ferry to Croatia and the remainder of two weeks with no particular plan except sight-seeing. Should be fun, being in a small hire car with t'missus for two weeks on a trip that I've given her carte blanche to arrange.

Still unsure what camera(s) to take, I'd like to have a film camera and a digital but space is as limited as t'missus's patience so I may end up taking all my photos on a cameraphone like the worst sort of facebook tourist instead.

Have fun while we're away, hopefully I'll have plenty to show when I get back but given my current backlog it may be next summer before the pics are ready :D

Have fun, remember and pack the car with camera gear so you're not tempted into people smuggling to cover your new LF habit.

Take the film camera and your phone - Croatia is too beautiful to miss. Get up first thing while Mrs Strappy is still sleeping, capture the golden hour. Pick up some coffee and pastries on the way back, wake her up with breakfast in bed and score maximum brownie points while still sneaking in a bit of photo time!

Have a great trip :-)

Just discovered that we're in Venice for three days as t'missus, bless 'er (hereafter known as TMBE [pronounced tumm-bae]), after insisting that the ferry company were wrong and tickets were available for sailing on Saturday night, has been informed that the alternative company selling tickets for the same damn ferry were incorrect and we can't sail until Sunday after all.

Hopefully that goes some way to explain both why I've let her arrange everything and why I'm relatively sanguine about (i.e. resigned to) all our plans changing on the day we're supposed to fly out. And why I might come back alone with a dodgy story of how she's decided to start a new life in the Balkans.

Just take the film camera and ditch the digital!

Can open, worms everywhere :D

I've been debating going fully film for a while but I love my X-Pro1 a bit more than is healthy for a camera that I've owned for 2 years and about 3k shots. It's perfect for happy snapping, though that's something I've been trying to get away from. A debate for another time.

I was in Croatia in 2008, didn't think I'd be back so soon but herself was persuaded by my tales of how lovely it is coupled by how relatively cheap it is. You can take the woman out of Norn Iron, etc. I've already informed her that I'll be getting up early to go take film shots and apparently that's fine provided I don't wake her.

Thanks for the good wishes, I'm sure it'll work out fine. Probably.

As for cameras, I'm thinking XP1 with a couple of lenses and the 'blad with 80mm lens and two backs, travel tripod in the main bag, to be transferred to the backpack once we land.

Sounds like a plan. Digi for wandering with TMBE and the 'blad for when you get take time for your self.

I didn't know we were allowed holidays!! Nobody told me. :(

I assumed once we sigined up, we were forever doomed to be on here.

How can you have a holiday without a camera?

Enjoy, Dean.

I went with the cameras as above and glad that's all I picked up as this bag is heavy enough!

Currently on a water bus from the airport to the centre of Venice, short walk to the hotel and I think I may have to get on the outside of a couple of beers :D

Got some Acros, GP3, Velvia and Portra, 10 rolls in total and the XP1 with 18-55mm and a Samyang 8mm. Brought a tripod too, it's the most organised camera bag I've taken on a trip and it was thrown together in a bit of a panic this morning. Goes to show that sometimes I need to think less ;)

Ah! The Samyang 8mm. Just as well you aren't taking pics of the Aurora :D

Arrived, eventually. The water bus that TMBE insisted on took 20 minutes to walk to, an hour to sail over and another 20 minutes to walk to the hotel where we were greeted by an elderly Italian gentleman (who reminded me of Brian, funnily enough) who told us that the shuttle bus takes 20 minutes to get here and it's a five minute walk.

TMBE is attempting to quickly move on whenever I try to discuss this.

Holidays are fun :)

Ammunition! You never know when you'll mess up (in her eyes).

Who ME (Brian) doesn't surprise me Dean as my face could be noticed everywhere as my wife reckons I look like Ronnie Corbett :D Enjoy your holiday

Just bought 5 rolls of Portra 160, got to grab it when you can as I told TMBE. The bloke insisted on taking the rolls out of the box and putting them in a bag, which seemed odd until I noticed each roll has suffered the same wear on the wrapper, right where the expiry date is...

Once bitten

It's gone awfully quiet in the Balkans is everything ok?

Was just wondering before we all get to t'Lakes is TMBE preferable to Mrs Strappy?

Using expired film, how very hipster of you!

All's good, thanks. I was concerned that live-blogging my holiday wasn't what people wanted to see, particularly as I haven't got any film photos ready yet. Shot a couple of rolls in Venice and about 450 digital shots so far, one or two of which may be quite reasonable :)

Weather yesterday was torrential rain for the schadenfreude enjoyers amongst you but it's back to 30c in the shade today. We're in Pula, Croatia, and spent the morning looking around a Roman amphitheatre and a remarkably plain cathedral.

She says she'd prefer Mrs Strappy though that was after I explained TMBE with the appropriate amount of eye-rolling at the BE part.

Mrs Strappy it is then. And sorry about your vote :coat:

Managed to get two rolls through the 'blad today in Plitvic National Park, lots of trees and lakes and waterfalls. Stopped after two rolls and went back to digital as I'd given up on the majority of our fellow travellers giving me a fraction of a second to take a shot without pushing past, gawping at me or turning to see what I'm shooting and stopping to take the same photo, getting in my view at the same time.

That's the trouble with abroad, it's full of bloody foreigners. And Asha.
