off camera ttl with the 550ex

i've been playing around with my 550ex and a nissin off camera cable i have, and the flash won't seem to do ttl metering this way. it works fine when i use my 40d, but on my 1d mk2 it only works in manual. is it me, or is this a limitation of the mk2?

If you replicate everything that you have done with your 40D (550EX connected to the camera, or cord, as master, Nissin as slave) I don't see why it wouldn't work...

ok, i had a look at things rationally, 550ex set to master, niisin cable set to EXT and not top, and ttl is working fine. 1d mk2, 550ex and nissin sc01 cable:
