Off camera flash

Hi, probably a daft question but i've got no shame so i'll ask anyway...

I'm a Sony alpha user and have got the HVLF56AM flash and i'm looking to add to my strobes. If I get a HVLF36AM (cos it's much cheaper) will the power difference between the two be noticable enough to cause any odd lighting effects? If so, can this be countered by having one on 3/4 power and the other on full or simply positioning the stronger one further away from subject?

I dont know anything about Sony's, but i think if you used the strongest flash as the main light and the other as fill.. :shrug:

you wouldnt have to 'balance' them like that.. its better not to have them both at the same power.. unless the image calls for it..

Cheers for that. I guess the only proper way to find out is to stop lingering around internet forums, buy one and start practising.

as long as you can adjust the output of both strobes then you should be fine. Even if you can't there are other ways to adjust the effect the strobe has on the picture....

For my location gigs, I need to be very mobile, versatile, and flexible. So for lighting I've got 5x 5600HS D flash guns, 3 charged sets of batteries and a relatively cheap tripod per 5600HS D, plus 3 Lastolite reflectors (silver/white), in a gym bag in back of my car. Covers a lot of bases.
