Anything else I should be looking at??

Godox TT685-S (and X1T-S transmitter)?
I find Sony's own flashes work very well indoors but may not have enough range outside.

Midday August sun? Balance with sunset? Fill flash or overpower?

It makes a huge difference, from a speedlight to a 1200Ws head in a huge softbox.

Well, there is the Nissin Air system but the Godox system is considerably cheaper.

Another vote for the Nissin Air- I use it and it does a great job too
