Thought I would show two methods of 'Off Camera Flash' I use -- the camera is my 1974 ASAHI PENTAX SPOTMATIC F which has a 'hot shoe' and the flash is the infamous VIVITAR 283 -- my one is the 'Made in Japan' version so it probably has the 'high trigger voltage' which could damage modern 'digital' cameras -- NO WORRIES with 'old PENTAXES !! ' THIS one shows the Vivitar with the 'extension cable. -- the sensor is removable and put onto the hot shoe attachment so it faces the subject and measures the reflected light -- I hold flash to the side and above the camera.

THIS one shows my 'Wireless Trigger; set-up the YONGNUO CTR-301P -- the 'trigger' sits on the Hot Shoe and the 'receiver' is on base of flash so flash can be much further away than the length of the extension cable -- don't forget to set the correct maximum flash synch speed which on this camera is 1/60th second.

When I look at these pictures of the camera they fill me with joy, it's like looking at an old friend.
I have very fond memories, being a 12-year-old using this equipment.
I have several old cameras and although they only now gather dust because I use digital I would not part with them for the world.
Never had enough money to buy flash guns all my shots were done with natural light.
Probably also didn't have the knowledge to work it all out.
Nice set, would like to see pictures if you have any from these using the flash.

Best regards.

Pat.

I have a few 283s and 285s. The auto modes never fail to give correct exposure.

I have a lead for the remote sensor too but I don't think I have ever used it.

I also have a Vivitar 3500 with a module to work with my Nikon FG and FE2. I haven't used that yet either.

Light is light.

Nothing 'modern' or 'better' about the light that comes out of a current flash whatsoever.

I have four 283s, all with VP1s, auto modules, extension cords, etc. I cut my teeth on them.

The extension cords were very useful, because

a) you can run the flash up high or place it inside a soft box, yet still easily adjust power with a VP1 on the end of an extension cable (something no other flash offered at the time), and
b) they overcome one of the limitations of the 283 where you cant swivel the head, or even reverse it backwards, so the auto module couldn't face the subject with the head pointing into a reflective umbrella. The superb vivitar side grip 'added' the swivel feature.

The auto modules were very accurate too.

I'm very confident that I could take four 283s to a wedding and still come back with the goods.
