Hi

I bought a bracket to take the flash off the camera and place the light where I need it for macro.
I also bought an off camera shoe cord to let me fire the flash when taking the pic.
Trouble is everything is working bar the flash, I set it up switch on the camera and then switch on the flash, it does its thing and gets the light on saying it is charged, I half press the button to get the auto focus to work and the flash does its thing again and sets itself to the settings on my camera,(so the shoe is alowing it to receive info) I fully press the button and nothing, the cmaera does its thing and takes the pic but the flash does not fire:shrug:

Any ideas, oh i put the flash onto the camera and all works fine so the flash is ok, I put in new batteries and its still the same does everything bar flash.

If the flash works and fires ok on camera, but does not fire off camera, then it's likely to be the lead/cable you're using. Is it the correct one? Can you try it another camera/flash or try a different lead/cable?

Here is the cord I bought

this one

did not really look at what flashes it would work with:bang:
But should it still work??

if this is the wrong one can someone point me in the direction of one I should be using?

Meike cords are, in my experience, crap, however the issue in this case may be related to your camera, as some of the Canon xxD models can have problems working with aftermarket TTL cords, even the good ones like the YongNuo.

Do you have access to another camera you can try the flash/cord combo with? Oh and, you're not setting the flash to slave mode before putting it on the cord, are you?

flash not in slave mode, so would a canon cord work as like you say aftermarket ones donot like my camera?

Should do, I had problems with both the YongNuo and Pixel cords and one specific Canon body, but I can't remember if it was the 40D or 50D.

One guy told me he'd tried several different makes and in the end he went and bough the genuine Canon one and that solved his problem.

Thats probably why the after market ones are £10 and the canon one is £60. Shame really as it does everything but fire the flash, sends signal butjust will not tell it too.

Thanks for your help

Next to the on/off switch there is s/off. Switch it to off.
Tried all that and still nothing

I have the jessops off flash chord and works like a treat.

This is on your 1000D?? like flash said its more the 40 or 50D mine is the 50D.
Coule be generic to 50D, going into Jessops saturday so will ask if I can try one of theres and see what happens

Thanks

Hey, I know it's a long shot - but are you using Live View to look at your image as you fire the flash? If you are then switch it off as the flash won't fire while you're using Live View.

Thanks for that but no I was not using live veiwat the time, checked the settings and it was enabled but not used, so switched it off all together and still nothing.

The flash sets itself to ETTL when button is pressed but just will not fire.

Ah well back to the drawing board.

Just an update.

I went into jessops and the guy let me try one of their own brand leads and yes it worked.

So for £22 it works fine.
