off camera flash

right, i have a 550ex for use off the camera, i want to use this on a light stand so need to trigger it remotely, apart from the st-e2, what are my options, bearing in mind the 550's lack of standard socket ?

Your flash has a hotshoe right? So you can use a set of wireless triggers to fire it.
You'll probably also want an umbrella adaptor which sits of your light stand and allows you to adjust the angle of your flash/umbrella setup.

Remember that with these wireless triggers your flash will be working in manual mode - there's no eTTL transmission between the flash and camera.
 
thanks guys but i already have the cheap stuff (none of it is reliable) looks like i'm probably going to get pocket wizards ! borrowed an st-e2 and it's also unreliable at distance
