What should I buy to go on my 450D and my Speedlite 580EX II?

What are my opinions?

Cheers...

Are you talking about another small flash unit or a studio flash setup? If you are talking about a small second flash then anything triggered by the flash from your first flash will obviously work. The cheaper end of the line will clearly have much less flexibility. If you are talking studio flash setup then there are a number of options starting at maybe somewhere around the £200 mark and going skywards. What is your budget?

Just done a search back to when I was in your position a while ago....

This thread brought up a fabulous little studio kit SEE POST NUMBER #2 which I went on to buy and have never looked back.....

Also see this thread which I posted with some helpful hints on using said setup....

Uhm, I just want it trigged by my camera, I think...

Why would I want anything else? I'm new to flash photography.

I think just a wireless kit to flash it off-camera would be good.

Sorry I don't understand your response. Are you saying that you want your camera to send a signal to your external flash unit which then flashes? If so then you can get an IR transmitter from ebay for £25 which will fire an external flash OR get a special cover for your built in flash which stops visible light but still fires your external flash. BUT most flash setups using 2 flashes use a forward firing flash so you would still be using the flash on your camera and the visible light from that will trigger your external one. IF you want to use your flashes in a setup that does not have a forward firing flash then you could trigger BOTH using the IR transmitter or cover I mentioned originally. :)

OR wired you could use a flash sync lead.

Off shoe cord or cactus triggers on a budget :)

If you're only firing one flash then off shoe cord is cheap and reliable, and you can buy triggers further down the line if you find you are limited.

Personally I use a cactus trigger on my 430EX and fire my 2 SB-26s using the built in optical slaves.

Does the 580EX II come with a stand? I just looked in my box and I haven't got one. :suspect: Where can I get the official stand that is always included in pictures of the 580EX II?

If I buy a 'shoe' for my 450D, where would I get a 'PC cable' to connect it to my 580EX II? Is there anything else I'd need?

The 580EXII does come with a stand. Have you looking in the stand pocket which is inside the supplied softcase?
