Shooting off-camera for the first time next weekend, can you guys recommend any good websites to look at for tips and techniques?

cheers :)

+1 for strobist.com

Also worth a look are:

www.zarias.com (David Hobby & Zack Arias both do good off camera flash DVS, Zack's in particular gives you a lot of setup information)
www.nickturpin.com (a British strobist)
www.flashflavor.com

there are links to further sites from each of the above, but these will get you pointed in the right direction.

And of course .... Here (Lightenupandshoot)

For me taken over the mantel from strobist.com. They have a great ebook out too for only £6 or there abouts.

To get up running and gunning quickly start with the lightenup and shoot guys. Great informal style, lot's of well thought out and witty videos to show and explain.

Then move up to strobist.com when you're comfortable with the info from Michael and Andy (about a week of experimenting I'd guess). David takes you deeper on your journey with light and introduces you to multiple flash, different modifiers and the whole exciting world of taking control.

Zack Arias is great for getting into the head of an editorial shooter, and has a really good series of posts on shooting white seamless, but his blog isn't so much focussed on teaching lighting as much as DH over at Strobist. The onelight DVD is worth getting a look at, but it isn't cheap, and sprining £9 for the v-book mentioned above will get you started for under a tenner.

After that, there's a whole heap of resources you can dip into, alongside all the other stuff mentioned above take a look at blogs from

Joe McNally
Bert Stephani (Squeeze the Lime)
Drew Gardner (Brit, and damn good at the BIG stuff)

There's also this bloke called Tomas Whitehouse that hangs round here and is getting pretty handy with this off camera light ;)

Guess the lighting's a good one too
http://guessthelighting.com/

But.....

Don't try and run before you can walk, one light at a time and keep it simple, you can shoot some beautiful images with just one flash and a covertible brolly (so much so I'm having a few months of going back to just one light) ;)

+1 for jason's recomendations.

I really had no clue about it all until both he and a few other pointed me to the lightenupandshoot book.
It really has so much information that you come away with almost no questions at all... it answers pretty much every basic lighting situation.

They also keep it very simple to start with, with just one softbox and the occasional use of a secondary flash.

Best £10 ive spent this month

Buy the v-book, although they've put the price up to roughly £9 now :suspect:

It's available on eBay for $9.76 (that's approx £6.17 at today's exchange rate)

Here's the link - eBay-V-Book

It is an authorised seller - he's the brother of Andy (one of the lightenupandshoot.com team), selling from the USA as Andy cannot sell on eBay from Colombia)
