I have a Fuji X-T1 and so far have rarely used the flash that came with it. There's a few techniques I'd like to try and off camera flash is recommended quite a lot. Can anyone advise the best set up? Don't want to spend loads as I'm not sure how often I'd use it.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Well, not saying the best, but I've got the same camera and have added a Yongnuo YN560iii and a 603ii wireless trigger. Less than £70 for both. Let's you try off camera wireless flash for not a lot.

Regards
Steve

You can get the remote thing for the 560 fairly cheap now, one that controls its power etc, so that's probably a good buy :)

Thanks both. Had looked at those on Amazon but wanted to make sure they worked with my camera. So many options out there!

Just another quick question - is it the 603ii c1 you have? Not sure what the difference is but there are different versions.

I have been using Yongnuo triggers and they work really well. I have them linked to a Yongnuo Flash Nikon SB800 and Sb600 with no problems

The 560iii flash has a 603ii receiver built in, so it makes sense to get the 603ii trigger to avoid having to add a third party receiver. I've tried to find out why it has to be the Canon version, but can't. Either way, it is important!

If you do not want to spend loads look at the YongNuo options.

The 603 triggers are dumb triggers which can just fire anything.
The 662 triggers are smart TTL triggers capable of communicating fully between the one on camera and all the rest. You must find one which matches your camera brand. They surely have Canon and Nikon versions, not sure if they have Fujifilm but you can look it up.

They will also work as dumb triggers if you put them on the wrong brand. I like this about them because I can use my Canon triggers on my Mamiya system with manual settings if I need to.

They are much cheaper than PocketWizards, which have been the only option for wireless TTL, but very expensive, and not sure about their versatility as dumb triggers.

And the best part for Canon and Nikon users is that they've made a TX unit to control all the flash settings and groupings FROM the transmitter. It saves a LOT OF TIME.

Drawbacks: all units are actually trancievers so you can put them on camera or under a flash.
TX is only a transmitter, so you cannot put a flash on it. Which means definitely no flash on camera if you are using a TX commander.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Will probably go with the Canon version of the 603ii. My other half has a Canon so we can at least use it on that if it doesn't work on the Fuji.

All I need to do now is find the cash! :)

When looking to purchase the triggers make sure you get the correct sync cords from the trigger to your camera and then you will be able to use one reciever on camera to trigger the sutter remotely. It cost £4-8 to sort this out if you get it wrong. I upgraded my camera just before Christmas and have had to get new sync cords as the setthat came with the triggers will not connect to my new camera! take the time to check...

Thanks for that - will do.
