odd but amusing names..............

I was at school with a girl called Theresa Tickle - for some reason she didnt like it when we shortened her name to Tess.

also My freind Charlotte has always gone by "charlie" - this wasnt a problem until she married a bloke called Brian Davidson , and became 'Charlie Davidson'

I do have a friend called Wayne king he also coaches football with me and they kids are getting to that age at 11 when they realise what his name sounds like.

Our friend's dog is called Tess Tickle :D

One of the sprinting events I'm photographing in June is named after a man called Dick Mayo.

A Mr & Mrs Head from around these parts named their son Richard.
( a few years ago now)
Shortening the sons name to Dick was frowned upon by his parents.
I never did know why :D

my daughter works with a guy called Leigh Lush

and then there's my name....

There was a Jim Onions on the tv news the other night (Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Warwickshire Fire Service), I thought that a classic name when I heard it.

I remember a Penny Black from university.

And not forgetting Sheikh Yamani who was oil minister for Saudi.

I also used to have to call Wang (the ersatz wordprocessor manufacturer) HQ in Germany. The standard operating process within Wang was to say the name of the company and the location you were calling.

They were based in Cologne.

Hard to resist saying "yes" when they made the announcement :)

Surely they answered the phone "Wang Köln"?

After all, the city isn't called Cologne in Cologne.

My mate is called Phani (pronounced fanny). Also know someone with a surname of Bender.

Used to do work at a local factory whose electrical engineer was MIKE HUNT :-)

Two form teachers of mine were a Mr Hill and Miss Mountain. If I remember right, they wound up marrying each other.

They probably realised that everyone knew they were up to summit :coat:

btw its only just dawned on my the irony of a thread on daft names being stared by some called lynton smith

I've known someone called Jack Daniels. No lie.

and then there's my name....

:bat: Now you can't go saying things like that without telling us more

Not really an odd name, but still a strange coincidence . . .
The team I used to work with had two Hannahs (Hannah Davies and Hannah J) who used to sit next to one another. That caused enough confusion in itself.

Hannah Davies married and became Hannah M. A year later Hannah J married and became Hannah Davies. You can imagine the total carnage with mixed up EMails, phone calls etc.

Duncan isn't that common a name (down here in England).
But I once worked in an open plan office with six and a half Duncan's in ears reach of each other. The half is counted from someone having Duncan as a surname.
That was bad...

Back on topic...
I used to work with Miss A Ferry.
Whose mum was K.A. Ferry

Loving this thread :D

Not strange names in themselves, but a strange coincidence that while working for an IT Company 3 of the computer engineers had surnames of Little, Large and Biggins.

no other department had staff with size related names.

My daughter's old school had a specialist department for deaf children. Run by Miss Herd. :D
