Yes
For the October challenge I was thinking that perhaps a competition for all new photographers might be a good idea. By "new" I mean TP members who have owned their first dslr/camera for 6 months or less.

Your input would be most welcome

Or to put a slight twist on your theme which could involve everyone is to do a pic (or maybe 2 or 3 framed together (triptych?) ) to highlight a specific photographic technique. That way everyone gets to enter and us newbs could learn a thing or 2 at the same time.

go for "A modern take on autumn colours"

stew

What about a autumn landscape scene that observes rules such as The rule of thirds, lead in lines etc?

I think Bruces idea is on the money. The themes should probably start with rules we learn when picking up photography. As Bruce mentioned, and to expand:

Rule of thirds
Leading lines
In Focus (can include depth of focus)
Exposure
Framing
Free space in front of subject? not sure on the rule name, but the idea is to leave free space for either the subject to "move into" or to "look into".

Then it could move onto Breaking some of the above rules, because a lot of the best photos purposely break them.

I might have misread the starting thread. You meant just for october, I misread it as an ongoing competition.

Still think Bruces Idea of incorporating some rules of photography is still spot on.

irrespective of what is chosen, i'm in :]

I'm new, but I don't own a DSLR...why does it have to be one of those?

I want to take part though...

CR

As the nights are drawing in, something to do with night photography would be good. Personally I think its a great way of learning the camera controls.

How about an open competition and an open subject? Us n00bs struggle enough without bringing in pesky rules :)

I like the idea of the competition, I would love to take part.

CGeezer, I know what you mean, but I have recently entered a few competitions and I have learned a lot more when taking a photo with a subject or theme than I have in the open ones. It really makes me think about what I'm doing and how I have to set things up to capture the image.

Id like to have a go too!! id prefer a subject and really like the autumn idea, can i just say that if were going for rules of photography can they be explained in the challenge because im so new to this most of the listed ones above mean nothing to me at the mo :( but would love to learn about them all :)

I'm getting a new 7D tomorrow, does that count? :coat:

Deffo up for taking part, waiting for theme with baited breath ...

i'll be having ago.

Also would like a go at this.

Is there a definite theme, cos I am really wanting to know, so I can focus my efforts instead of shooting everything anything and get together an entry.

Yes could do with knowing the theme etc as Chlowasaki is really wanting to have a go at this even though she has only had TWO days of learning how to use the camera :)

It should give her some direction.....

I'm guessing this idea has died off seeing as its the 10th now?

I'm definitely interested in getting involved if someone comes up with a theme :D

This is a new thread isnt it?

How about following the old C&G course curriculum. Take them out for a night shoot, a little portraiture, studio lighting etc
