OCF with SB-600 and yongnuo 460II ?

I recently bought a yongnuo 460II flash with a small lighting setup and after playing about with it using my SB600 fired wirlessly using my D300 in commander mode im ready to add another light - but am struggling to figure out how use the yongnuo 460II with the SB600.

I know its a manual flash only which is fine but as the sb600 has no optical slave i can't see how to fire them both using the D300 in commander mode?

Whats the cheapest way to do this if i have to buy some triggers etc?

Yongnuo has an S2 slave mode doesn't it?
 
Can you not just set the SB600 to group A in the camera and then the 460II to slave mode which will fire from the onboard which is set to commander?
 
You are both right i think - i was just getting a bit confused reading up on it. Will soon see when i try it out.

S1 will just fire if it sees the flash, ie the preflash, S2 will ignore preflash and fire on main.
I use S1 as a hair light from the mainlight all the time.
 
Don't suppose anyone can recommend a cheap set of triggers?

Also would i still need a trigger and receiver for my sb600 or is it just the yongnuo? I'm guessing i need triggers for both and i take i just set my camera to commander mode?

You need a trigger for the camera and one receiver for each gun.

Cheapest prolly Yongnuo RF-602 or 603. Manual only.

or you can look at pixel kings.they are ttl .

May I ask are you using TTL for the picture ?
If not then you would have to set to manual for all and set up. Like they say in the article it flashes on one of the pre flashes not the main.
I have everything in manual, so that with the onboard dialed down to -3 it is lifting the image a little, and the others are waiting for the flash.
If you are using the ttl then you will need the more expensive TTL triggers.
I would switch the whole setup into Manual and take it from there, if you can you can get a light meter to check the lights.

No ttl mate, got my sb600 on manual power in group A channel 3, d300 in commander mode. I then put the sb600 into wireless mode, which is triggered by the d300 pop up commander but the yongyuro does not fire in either s1 or s2 with the sb600. It will only fire if i turn the sb600 off
 
That seems a very strange problem. The yongnuo slave modes aren't too sophisticated and the only difference between s1 and s2 is to ignore a preflash. The only problem I've had
with a yongnuo in slave mode is that they fire when anybody's flash goes off.
 
I'll give it another go tonight incase i was doing something stupid!
 
just make sure the sensor on the yongnuo is in line of sight to the nikon flash
 
I am not sure if the sb has a slave setting but if it has one then turn your on board flash to manual, set at lowest power so it only adds a little to the photo, then the sb600 into Manual slave (read about f and f2 at kenrockwell), then the yongnou in s1 and fire the shutter.
