OCF Recommendations

Morning folks,

Currently I use a Yongnuo 565EX on camera at almost every event I shoot but I'm wanting to invest in an off camera flash kit I can use for wedding and portrait work.

I'll probably only want 2-3 flashes but ideally something with built in receivers and a transmitter on camera that can change the power of the flashes remotely.

I've previously looked at Phottix and Godox but wondered if anyone had any specific recommendations?

The big advantage of Godox is that it is a system, at the on camera level for TTL you have the TT685 with AA cells or V860 with Li-Ion (my choice), coming very soon the AD200 (looks fantastic), the AD360II (flashgun on steroids) and the AD600 (fantastic light) and if you need more power then combine 2 AD600s into a 1200W light. Remember, they are fully Nikon, Sony and Canon - for me a no brainer.

Thanks mike that's very helpful. What is the godox trigger system like? Assuming it can trigger all of the flashes you've mentioned? Thanks

That is the best option, I think the next best is to stick with Yongnuo and get a YN622 TX a receiver for your current flash and then build with the 685 flashes which have 622 receivers built in.

The X1 trigger comes in 3 versions, Nikon, Canon & Sony and yes all lights work off of it. You can also buy X1 receivers so you could add 1 and keep your current lights in the mix. There is also a totally manual X32 for Canon, no sign of the Nikon version yet, belief is that the AD200 is holding everything up.

Yeah that's what I thought, until I looked at the AD200 thread

This is my plan X1 2xTT685n (already own these) then add a AD200. I can then trigger everything with the X1, or chuck a flash on camera and control the rest from that! For a setup that'll cost roughly £500 its good value for money!

A couple of years ago I got a yongnuo flash controller and 3 flashes for much less. Drawback is only manual and doesn't do rear curtain synch but this has rarely caused an issue.
