I`ve recently bought 2 lenses, a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 and a Sigma 10-20mm now i`ve read on some internet site and forums that these lenses (and prob most other lenses) have their fair share of problems, for instance, front and back focusing, softness etc etc.

Now no matter how happy i am with these lenses (and i am quite happy lol) i read about these problems and then rather be content with what i have i`m like looking to find something wrong with them, doing test after test.

And i`ve got to be honest i do my own head in with thinking/worrying about it afraid of my life i`ve got a `bad` lens, Is everyone else like me or am i going mad? lol

I don't think you're going mad
Ps Sorry to hear about your lens

Cheers mate, I`m happy with the lens, but i wish i could tell myself to stop doing daft tests every weekend haha.

One thing that is good to come out of it, it`ll put me off buying another lens for a while, couldn`t cope with it lol.
Think i`ve spent enough for now on those 2 bad boys!

I was only joking, think the same way myself some-times

I learnt a long time ago that in this slightly less than perfect world we live in that if you look for problems you will undoubtedly find some!

(I have to tell myself this from time to time as I forget - I am slightly less than perfect you see)

I've never done a test on a lens in my life. I get hold of it, stick it on the camera and take some pics, if I'm happy with what it does then it gets put in the camera bag and gets used.

I've not found one yet that I've had a real problem with and those include the Sigma 15-30mm 24-70mm and 70-200mm which is a real cracker.

I've shot the 70-200mm against a Canon 70-200mm f2.8IS and despite the Canon being twice the price I could not find any difference between the images, even at 100%. Mine seems to be a real cracker.

So stop testing them to death and use them!!! :)

I hate lens tests, I avoid them like the plague (Lens comparisons, I'll do those)

My method with a lens is
Buy lens
Use lens for my intended purpose
Only if I get consistently unsatisfactory results will I start considering tests.

Nothing is ever perfect, you can only hope to find something with not too many problems.
Personally I steer well clear of benchmarking and testing anything.

The other thing to remember is that it's quite easy to make a slight mistake during one of these tests and to show up a problem that isn't there.

Just forget it :) Take photos as normal and enjoy, if there is a problem you'll notice it.

I think you have lens OCD....No, only joking, I was convinced my new 55-200 wasnt working properly but it was, it was me!

these 'tests' are usually a load of rubbish anyway, people complain about softness etc when usually the lens is fine they just have to find faults, aslong as your happy with what the lens does and aslong as its not soft to the point where you cant make out the picture lol youl be fine! and dont forget we cant all afford top end super lenses lol

Or, if you think there is something wrong with it - send it back to the manufacturer and get it fixed!

You'll always hear bad stuff about kit - there's even people who don't like Nikon's 70-200, saying it's soft in the corners.... There will always be someone who can slate a product you have - it doesn't mean you like it any less...

Yip - I don't trust tests. Once you've read the usual magazines for a while contradictions get spotted.

For all we know reviewers could have vested interests in promoting certain kit.

If you are happy with the lens in general everyday use then don't worry.

I have only ever used the tests if I have not been happy with the focus of a number of images :)

Enjoy the lenses!!

I also bought a Sigma lens then after purchase looked up reviews(dont no why) and it was'nt looking good but when i took some shots with it i am very pleased with my purchase.

Against my Nikon lenses i think it looks a bit better in the colour side anyway, My friend asked for a shot for a short holiday and was blown away with the lens.

Well im saying never mind the tests if your happy thats all that matters as these test seem to go well past the avarage Joe Public's needs.

Sling them on to your bodies, go out there and take some pics, and you'll forget all about the intricacies of test shots and lens performance; all that matters is the shot, the lens is just a link of the chain that gets you there.
