Yes
Yes, he made a wonderful fund raising journey but why should he get a an honour?

If the reason is because he did the ride, then what of Matt Baker's CiN efforts over a few years with the Rickshaw challenge???

PS were there not others too over the years that did challenges of endurance with great fundraising results.....were they too also worthy of an honour and if not why not!

£7.5 million
CBE minimum all day long

Shaun Harvey - Humphrey Ker - Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney should also get honours for allowing Paddy to stand in front of the magnificent Racecourse Floodlights.

Credit for Paddy for doing what he did... but when my Mum worked for the local government offices that were involved in the handling of CiN cash she was appalled as to how little got to those actually in need,,,,,that was 30+years ago.

WTF does any of what you said mean?

In regard to my querying about Matt Baker's CiN and charity work....I found this....

"He was awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours List 2022 for charitable and voluntary services to fundraising, raising over £45 million for Children In Need during his now legendary 12 consecutive years of Rickshaw Challenge rides"

So, Matt Baker only(?) got a lowly MBE having raised £45M and you believe Paddy McGuinnes should get the higher ranking CBE for raising only(?) about £7.8M
Hardly seems fair when his wonderful figure is seen in context to those who have also worked harder for charity cause(s), does it

PS it also goes to show that such Honours are typically given in the light of longer involvement in the cause!

PPS I also found a pdf issued by the government office that handles honours.

So, CBE it seems is not applicable to charity & community works.

"Commander of the Order of
the British Empire (CBE)
The CBE is given to people who have
done something important or a
different kind of job or service for the
country or a region of the country"

Of MBE

"Member of the Order of the
British Empire (MBE)
The MBE is given to people who have
worked hard for their community over
a long time and made a big difference.

They have shown other people what
can be done through their own hard work"

And as for OBE

"Officer of the Order of the
British Empire (OBE)
The OBE is given to people who have
done something special for their
region or country."

Except that lots of MBE's and OBE's get issued to civil servants/health staff etc after 30 years or so, for just doing their job. Same with sporting people, getting a whole range of gongs just for doing their jobs (for which they will already have won sporting honours that mean a lot more). The system is ridiculous and anachronistic. The Empire doesn't exist. Call me a curmudgeon, if you wish, but a "Well done" by someone who genuinely gets it - say Princess Anne or Simon Weston - is worth far more than a silly bit of ribbon and brass.

That is not true. The receiving of such honours for long service in the civil service were stopped well over 20 years ago. I worked in the civil service for just over 43 years and did not expect or receive an honour. The few colleagues I recall receiving an honour had done something very significant (e.g. risking their lives for the public). However, it would seem time to move on from the word Empire.

Why?

He was probably contracted to do something as he works for BBC/Radio 2

Comes with the Job.

I recall a certain elderly gentleman getting a knighthood for raising money for the NHS.
