Edit My Images
Yes
The second year in a row weve been dissapointed inthe quality of the images from a firm called Concept Photography, they have a habit of cutting tops of heads off (image attached). Surely thus would be better in a portrait view.
Im going to contact them and see if i can get the raw files but i dont hold my breath, £48 for 4 images, no cardboard frames like you used to get. My yearly xmas images are much better and its a hobby for me, just a background and a basic Nikon flash.
Is this the norm these days?, hopefully the school pictures will be better.

If you don't like them don't buy them

There can be some kind of "pressure" from the School and Child in not being one who dose not buy her photograph ...... but tell the School why and maybe changes will be made.

I don't see much point these days in buying individual one person images if you have a digital camera ....... Class or Group photos yes.

(More and more Schools are now offering a digital download BUT with the "mumbo-jumbo" copyright situation to make your own prints of such school photos, technically you need to ensure that you have the legal right to print it)

It might not be much consolation. But I think this might be the only instance in which I might recommend AI. It can do remarkable things.

No idea about that AI stuff, but I did some reading and apparently its style of photography, not my cup of tea though

I mean you could use it to repair your pictures. If all else fails, that is.

Those school photos serve two purposes quite often - a photo for the school management system and then a keepsake for the parents. I don’t know how that particular company operates but Tempest don’t usually charge the school directly but make their money selling prints and key fobs to parents. Often the people taking the photos aren’t really photographers, perhaps in the same way we are, but more often trained to setup their gear to get consistent reproducible images in a controlled environment, hence why they look as they do.

This ^^^^

I did a couple of seasons working for a school photography company based in Cardiff and aside from a small handful of "enthusiasts" the rest of the team were just folks that could remember how to set up the kit and get the images they wanted. Schools were very quick to complain if parents were critical of the photos of their kids and would change suppliers at the drop of a hat. In the off-season I spent my time trying to mend fences with schools that had ditched us the previous year - not an easy task.
