Seems my local PC World is undergoing a massive refit so they have a small area where someone greets you to find out what you want, pretty pointless as you then still have to join a long queue for 4 assistants even if you have done a pick up in store order.
Not knowing this I went there today for some dual layer writable DVDs
Having duly sttod in line for 20 mins, finally got an assistant who said no problem he would go and get some different packs so I could choose.
Another 10 mins later came back with some ordinary DVD+ discs and proceeded to tell me that there was only one sort of writable DVDs and
these would work, arghhhhhhh
I have a huge stack of them at home and my PC is telling me I need DVD R- or + DL discs
Do they not train their staff in simple matters :bang::bang:
Got them in Maplins which I didn't realise there was a branch of that close and helped by an assistant who actually knew what I was talking about :D

You buy discs from pc world? You must be loaded!

What I was going to say.

PC World are hopeless, not all their staff are idiots though, I have one very knowledgeable friend who works for them (although I'm always trying to persuade him to go somewhere else where his knowledge will actually be worthwhile).

My biggest gripe with PC World is just the cost, they charge way over the odds for everything, games and software particularly. You can find stuff in their shops still retailing at the original price two or three years after it came out while everywhere else has slashed the price.

Glad you eventually went to Maplin, not perfect but in terms of high street stores they're one of the better ones.

Needs must is the answer to that, I needed them in a hurry and thought PC World was the likeliest place to have them within driving distance.
Novatech is a bit far from here and petrol cost would have countered the saving in price

Have done in the past :p:lol:
Trouble is a bit like going to Park Cameras I tend to spend more money then I intended to ;)

When I brought my new iMac a couple of months ago the PC World Staff and the Apple guy couldn't have even more helpful. The Apple guy didn't mind spending ages with answering all my questions.

What's really pi**ed me off with the PC World in Purley Way, Croydon is part of the massive store has been converted in to a Next Home store! All very well doing this but they haven't increased the size of the car park. It's resulted in all the trendy people who decide they must go to Next Home taking over the car park. On my last visit on Saturday to PC World I had to give up in the end because I couldn't find a space in the car park so PCW lost out on potential sale from me. What plunker decided to decided to put Next Home there I don't know!

This reminds me of currys / pcworlds new adverts, with the star wars theme. Where they emphasise that they have trained their staff to the highest levels of product knowledge and customer service to be able to assist you - the customer.

First time I saw it, I literally burst out laughing, spilt my tea everywhere

no.

oh the arguments ive had in there when ive had the misfortune to need something urgently. thankfully these days novatech is 20 mins away :D

:plusone:

Novatech all the way people.
I've said it MANY a times - their prices and knowledge will NOT be beaten.

you can buy discs in our tescos - okay the staff are a bunch of equally cluesless numpties, but the CDs cost about a third of the pc world price

I find PC World quite handy if I ever need something in a hurry but I would never dream of asking anyone there for any sort of "advice" any more than I would ask someone at my local Sainsburys for advice on the best groceries to buy ;)

This man speaks the truth. Currys, dixons, pc world etc are handy if you know what you want, otherwise forget it.

+1 they are useless most of the time....

Erm, £4.99 for a multimedia keyboard shows there are occasions when you are so wrong!

Mind you, you are right most of the time.

To get a job at PCW you just need to be able to drag your knuckles on the floor don't you?

I went into a Currys somewhere in London (my geography of London is poor but it was near the Excel Centre) and blaring over the instore music system was a rap of "Let's Get Retarded in Here".

Thanks for all the links Guys but these are dual layer DVDs I was after (8.5gb) and not everywhere does them, will have a look in my local tesco at some time for future reference.
I had a project sitting on the laptop that I needed to get onto disc straight away as I couldn't close it down without losing it so mail order not an a
option.

You are never going to get experts at places like PC world because who is going to be totally knowledgeable on Cameras,TV's,PC's,laptops etc so give them a break. Now Jessops that's a totally different kettle of fish

I used to fix the personal PC's of staff in my local PC World when I lived in Essex.

Also, at the moment Maplins are doing packs of 25 for £19.99, plus you can use the money off vouchers as well. £3 off for £30 spend and £5 off for £50 spend.
