I'm having a nightmare sourcing a nude male model. Its nothing sexual, but full nudity would be required for the image I have in mind.

I've tried the various TFP websites and had no luck. I'm not really suprised by this! I have however had much more luck when stating that it may be a paid job.

So I've now decided payment is the only way I will get the correct model. So, how much is the going rate for a nude model? The work is a non-commissioned personal project so budget is tiny.

Same as the going rate for a naked female model I would guess, which depending on there experience and look can be anything from £30-50 an hr and most models require a 2hour booking.

If you give them your budget and explain the conecpt your after they will I'm sure work around your budget & if you show them some previous work or sell the idea enough they may do it at a reduced rate in exchange for a copy.

Self timer? If you can't find anyone else to drop their kecks then you'll have to do it yourself!

Remote wireless shutter release might be better.

You need to see the light on the subject, and adjust the position of both the light and the subject.

It's impossible to be both the subject and the photographer.

Cindy Sherman gets around it very simply, she is using the technique soley to produce her own unique style of art.

Yes, theoretically it's possible to spend all day taking photos with small variations in lighting and pose until you've got what you want, but in practical terms, it's impossible.

and, erm, what about the absolute deluge of flickr self portraitographers at the moment, brooke shaden et all.

but still using cameras, tripods, lighting, props, backdrops and herself in the same manner the original poster would have to work should he desire to model for the shots himself....hell ive even done it with the desired effect, not impossible morelike a challenge ;)

infact it reminds me of a set i did for college a while back, not amazing or extremely well lit, one speedlight. but still achieved the effect i wanted, no doubt i could set up and shoot a self portrait with whatever lighting set up i wanted now.

they were supposed to be a mini documentary about a city worker getting smashed but caught in the act, a hapless fellow called Mr D. Bauche

I know someone who did some great self-nudes for her art project, but it was a very static setup, lighting gels and medium format rather than 4 softboxes
in retrospect as it was on MF film she did a cracking job!

Of course you can take a photo of yourself.. I don't think that's Garrys argument.

However to get micro adjustments in lighting and pose whilst changing position and lighting yourself is nigh on impossible.

You may end up with a very good image (eventually) but it's unlikely to be the same as you'd visualize if you were behind the camera.

baaah poppycock! (Could be an idea for a nude there Lol)
And if the op really can't get or afford a model and wants to diy it so to speak, and as an amateur, im sure that time, patience and flexibility (BOOM BOOM) is on his side, but not his backside as its a full frontal

Right... to be clear, I have used myself as a model. Many times over. It is possible, but not practical. Its a great way sounding out an idea. But it takes hours to get everything correct. I'm trying to fit this project in around other paid studio work, so I haven't got days of spare time to experiment.

Besides, I want to use a model as I'm not too thrilled with the idea of showing any of my existing clients nude pictures of myself. I think they call that career suicide....

So, the info I was originally asking for was what are people paying for 2-3 hours, of non commissioned nude photography to an amateur or semi pro model? I was thinking around the £25 p/h mark.

Pricing is really all down to supply and demand, and although the demand for male nude models is probably low, so is the supply, and this may increase costs.

One thing you could do is to try the various modelling websites, find suitable models and ask them what they charge - I do this myself because
1. Models are often prepared to work for far less than they indicate on their profile page
2. If it's the model who has named the price, they are far more likely to be happy with it than if you name it.

Another option, if the physical appearance of the model isn't important, is to contact your local college running life classes - life models are happy to work for very low rates.

I'm glad that you've tried it and agree with me:)

Mike, I might be interested in modelling for you. I have not done it before but if you are happy to work with that, I may be able to assist. Would be helpful to know the theme?

Stuart

Where are you based? And what's the specification of person you're looking for? Age/Race/Body size/Hair colour etc - I know a few models that might fit the bill...

Can I come and watch

They have to be fit, no beer belly or man boobs

Have you tried Purpleport, i think their are a couple of male models on there who do nude modelling.

Quite why anyone would want to see a full frontal, nude male is beyond me. Just looking in a mirror is quite enough for me!! :)

Andy

Why not? You'd quite happily look at a full frontal female shot no doubt?

??

Care to elaborate?

Some great wit here, amazing better than X factor. I can think of a different type of trigger if all fails with no takers and you want to end it all!!!:lol::lol::clap:

Yup. You missed Keebs' point entirely; ie it went straight over your head! :)

Although I do get your own pint though! :)

My own PINT? Now you're talking :)
