Had a day with the family at Nostel Priory at the weekend visiting the police dog show they had on. Had a really lovely day and whilst taking the dog for a run on the field the police Helicopter came into land right past me and was less that 100m away from it so was perfect opportunity to try a few shots. I am assuming its NPAS Carr Gate but when i was in police was easier to identify as was known as X99 before merging into NPAS

Weather was a bit poor and never tried shooting a helicopter at this distance before so was a new challenge for me.

With your IS lens, you could have dropped the shutter speed a bit to get more rotor blur which would (IMO) improve the shots a bit. Having the helicopter just above the tree line would isolate it from the ground a bit too.

Will give it a go with lower shutter speed next time I get chance to see one up and close.
It hovered in over the field about 10 feet from the ground so didn't get any chance of it above the trees. I could of got lower down to ground but field was full of cow sh1t! So didn't fancy laying down.

First shot works well for me James.

Thanks [emoji2]

I would be happy with the first one as well. Of course being a NOTAR chopper you have not got to worry about the tail rotor either just the main one.

Don't mind suffering but not in cow poo!!
