Ain't much of a difference for some. Being a bad, naughty little forumite could get you spanked... oh baby ;)
 
It just admin really they have their little secret meetings in darkened corners away from the rest of us, which is OK but then they start on the cooking sherry and the rest is history............................. :D
 
looks similar to a rep system to me and it's a bad idea imho, some of the sites I have visited that have a rep system have posters just trying to get rep, it makes new users feel inferior and makes the sites seem cliquey.
Of coarse this is all imho.
 
I have to say, my initial opinion is that it will only make the popular ones among us more popular and the not so well known members kinda left behind. :/

I'm happy to see how it pans out, but speaking to a member the other day, it was discussed that it can sometimes come across as a little cliquey... The well known members get lots of thread replies etc etc.

I say this of course at the risk of falling far into the realms of segregation :D ... but oh well :), Still love the place regardless!

Seriously & Pesonally, if it is a rep "score" its not something I would like to see here either I have seen some real "flamers" on another forum I frequent ( Non tog BTW) over this type of thing then you get into the "banned for a day / week / month. and all sorts of other faeces related posts.
If I am wrong then I apologise and will accept one minus credit :rules: :D

Yes, we've installed a "Thanks" facility to the forums. At the moment, it's only a trial run, see how it goes.

Don't worry, it won't be used like the 'Reputation' system, or as a way to segregate people or exaggerate any cliquey thoughts ;)
The system will ideally be used to thank people for a post. Not for someone to be thanked x-amount of times. Basically it's an encouragement system for every single member, old and new alike. An easy way of someone saying thankyou for a post.

What it won't be is another way of 'willy waving', like the "Rep" system will do, where staff add reputation points to their favourite apple bringers, or from friend to friend.
Where you will only see who has thanked who, is under that particular post.

I've already removed the users "Thanked" counts from the "Postbit" under each persons avatar on their posts. This is still in their user profile (how many times theyve been thanked), but its not so prominent now, and harder to find.

Hope this placates any fears you all might have.
We have the ability to remove individual 'Thanks', to remove it from particular forums, to restrict it in many ways, and also to ban particular users from using the facility.
So any sign of misuse and yoink, we press buttons! :D

I love spam post spotting, and admin watching, It just a little hobby :D
Oh and thank you for being so up front about it, I would also like to thank my manager my script writer the the film crew and I really should lay off the caffeine & donuts this time of night :D
 
Aye we don't do anything secretly around here. If we install something and the members hate it then their really is no point in us having it here.

Everything we do is honestly for the good of the forum, from installing an addon, to banning a particular topic etc. If its good for the forum it goes in! :D
 
I think the best way to describe it, is to encourage people that their posts are worthwhile, especially new members.

Alot of members have a problem in that they dont feel their opinions are valid because they dont have an SLR, or they havent got a full version of Photoshop, or they havent been into photography long enough. We don't want any of that, but there's only so many times we can explain to people that their opinions are welcomed and equally valid as the next mans, regardless of experience, kit, camera, social standing, or shoe size. (although we will still tell people where necessary).

Just thinking it might be nice for people to see a quick thanks under their posts, when theyve been brave to post something..

Does that make sense? lol I think Im waffling now......need more coffee!

Not sure about the rest though, don't "we" now say "great post" thanks for the heads up / info or perhaps "you" think "we" don't say it enough ? :shrug:
I'm happy to run with the majority.........
 
This is the only forum I've ever joined and the only one I ever looked at for more than half an hour (except Screwfix "which hammer is best" Doh). I have no idea what you're all talking about but all the best with it. :D

Sorry, I'm a bit bored waiting for the doctor to take my stitches out :eek:
