So Shropshire council are revamping their website, starting with the library service pages, and want members of the public to go and take the photos of the libraries so they don't have to pay a photographer.:lol:

Goverment cuts to local authorities, they have to priortise what to spend the money on.
I am suprised that they spend money on new websites durring these times though, even Direct.Gov is being replaced soon

how is it a scam - they are asking for pictures for use on their website. you can either submit pictures or not.

Would be kind of funny,if people did start doing this, then a SG came out and told them, their not allow to take photos of the building :)

I hope they like creativity. I'm going down with a load of funny coloured Cokins and some diffraction filters.

Seems fair enough to me, would happily oblige for my local library if Cambs did the same thing.

Where's the scam? Is there anything dishonest or fraudulent on that page? Seems pretty straightforward to me, do you need some help understanding the text?

No. I was just referencing all the other 'scam' posts. Of course it isn't a scam, but i guess humour doesn't translate well.

Oh well.

I wouldn't begrudge a library the right to try and get free photographs. They give out free books, and are one of the only public services in this country worth preserving.

Any 'scam' would involve some type of deception, this does not. It's seems pretty clear and upfront about it all, good luck to 'em.

Has anyone seen the new library that is being built in Birmingham? I would not mind being scammed to do the photos for them. It does look quite an amazing architectural building for Birmingham.

Libraries are 'not for profit' organisations, their budgets are being slashed and they're asking for photo's to help promote and protect their services - it'd be churlish not to help.

Would it be a 'scam' if the local nightclub was asking for free images and enticing photographers to give them up using ego stroking? Obviously IMO Yes.

But we need to understand the difference between charitable work and being hoodwinked by someone who'll make money by taking advantage of our vanity:naughty:

More and more libraries are being run by private companies now so are not charitable or not for profit organisations. But it is true that the local authority wants to see massive cuts or "efficiency savings" every year.

The new library in Birmingham looks like its going to be a really good looking space, I'd love to get there to take some pics.

Same answer - would I give my work away to a company running libraries that was making a profit from my council tax? No.

What have the romans ever done for us, eh? Apart from the libraries. And police. And hospitals. And doctors and nurses. And schools. And roads. And the forces. And border controls. And social services. Etc etc etc. reminds me of a film i once saw....

But back to topic - can't see how helping to keep council tax down by a bit of voluntary work is a bad thing. I'd be happy to help with pics if i could, if they did the same around here (be pretty chuffed to get my pic used, tbh). But if some company asked me to do it to improve their bottom line then yep, that would be a different thing.
