Novice Introduction

Hi all just popping into say hello and introduce myself.

I have been taking snaps for years some have been good enough to give to family members who love getting them but now I want to take some really nice pictures with my canon 550d that I could maybe eventually hang on my wall with pride..LOL! I want to stop taking my images using auto as I know my images could be better if I learn to use manual. Our river Ayr froze over 2 years ago it was an amazing sight and i took hundreds of photos only wishing i had known how to work my camera to improve them.

So any help would be great.I do love taking my family pictures and take thousands of my grandkids only to delete most but I really enjoy it.

I would also like to learn how to take some nice landscape photos but need to know which lens would be best to use for this.
i could go on all day asking questions but for now I will sit back and read the forum to see what I can learn.

i'm new here too but welcome! i'm starting right at the beginning looking to purchase my first camera, i've been looking at the 550D as a start, what are your thoughts on it?

So far I. Am loving it but over the years I have always used auto most of the time.This one does a fabulous job on auto but I want to learn to use it with all the settings so that I can improve my future shots. My promise to myself is that if i
master this I will then get a full frame canon. So we will wait and see.
