How come bigger forums I frequent don't have the same problem?

Not bitching Matty, just saying.

:sulk:

cos they are on dedicated servers? Our hosts have VERY large forums under their control, they have been telling us we need to look at a dedicated box for a couple of months.

Some large sites are spread over 2 servers, even 3!

Serious Question ...

Has the problem affected starting new posts in the classifieds / wanted forums? as I keep getting an error!

chances are you have a thread open in their somewhere...

Cheers matty ... I still have one wanted post open that I know of ... but can't find it :D ... no worries, I can wait until everything is sorted

The problem with Matty's comments are that some of us don't have the time to look at all the the places we like as this can be quite a few. I generally look at new posts because I like to see if there is something interesting to view. This could include the motorsport section (for an example) of which I do not normally frequent but do when I spot a headline worth opening.

Bring back new posts or lose viewers - which would you prefer?

Are you serious?

Which part of "this is a temporary problem" don't you get?

Admin are using every resource available to get this issue sorted as quickly as possible. Very shortly we will be on a dedicated server, which doesn't come cheap, but will solve the current problems.

To stop people asking where the missing links are just reinstate them and make them point to this thread.

Why not just have a search button then? that can find everything :D

Some of us appreciate the problems you are having and appreciate all the hard work being put in  :)

Do we have a timescale for the dedicated server coming on line and being set up?

Is there going to be any downtime with the swap to the new server as the DB's are transferred or can Vbulletin do live replication? thanks to all the admins for getting this sorted and keeping us informed :)

DOn't know if anyone's posted it, but if you want to search, just put this into your Google search:

site:talkphotography.co.uk

and then type whatever you're looking for after it, e.g.

site:talkphotography.co.uk vivitar 35mm

:)

It was posted before but that's not what people mainly use the search function for. Google can't help with the main use of "New posts since last visit" and "My latest posts"

Fantastic,

I know how hard you are working to get this sorted and I for one appreciate it

:plusone:

I must say that some of the comments in here have become IMO very petty. Last time I checked this was a free forum that works efficiently and very well in the most part. Is well moderated and maintained. One feature being removed for a few days and people are acting like the world is about to end! :dummy:

Just to say thanks for all the work you're doing and time you are putting in to get it sorted - muchos appreciated :)

I s'pose they could have their entry fee refunded?

Oh... No wait....

Bit of a slight hiccup with the delivery of the server. Basically someone thought someone else was taking a trip to the docklands. But they weren't.
Hopefully it will either be tomorrow morning (at a push), or Sunday.

Sorry for the extended delay ladies and gents, we *really* appreciate everone's patience at running without a couple of the links for a couple of days in order to keep things tip top :)

:D I am sure we will manage till then. Once it is in place is everything going back as it was?

Know the feeling, been waiting in most of two days for a couple of deliveries, now won't come until Saturday!
We'll manage until it's up and running - still more reason to stay here than similar forums.

Good luck with the immanent arrival

And as already said, all your hard work is appreciated

as darren said some of us have to deal with stuff like this every day and are fully aware of what an arse ache something like swapping hosting/servers can be.. unfortunately its not a case of flipping a switch..

replying to unnecessary whinging only delays matters too.

keep up the good work mods/admins..

:)

Good luck with that. We pulled our servers out of docklands as it was a nightmare to get to and a nightmare with security. You could lose a whole day just for something simple.

We've now got them sat on a huge fat local pipe leading into there.

Keep up the good work though. It takes a little thinking about using the forums to get around the search feature - you don't realise how much you use it or where it's integrated in until it's gone, but there's ways.

I get auto notification and don't delete any emails from TP which go to a different account with all my other forum emails (95% TP!). I then use search on the computer before trying it on the web page. It only allows me to find threads i've been involved in and then only when one of the emails have coincidentally come to the mailbox but it is a start.

I am missing the Community >> Members list as much.

Re: Forum problems ....

"We have temporarily edited some settings and facilities"

any ideas how long this is going to last ???

Just over the weekend all being well until the site is moved to a new server.

The new server is now in place, but the switchover won't be until either tomorrow morning, or Sunday.

We're almost there ladies and gents :)

Not long now then? :D

Woohoo,

Thanks Marcel. How much bigger is the new one than the old one? Are we looking at needing to upgrade again in the mid/long term?

After switch over are you keeping it the same for the moment or switching everything back on straight away OR is it a case of playing by ear.

Good luck with this and hope you are not feeling too frazzled :)

I thought this thread had disappeared as I kept going and looking for it in the forum discussion area, just found it again by accident, should have known I had to look somewhere else :bonk::bonk:

Should have done a search ;)

Me to

Search, I am searching for it - where is it ?

I just want to voice my appreciation for all the hard work you put into keeping TP up and running.

Thank you very much for making this. It's been one of the very few joys I get these days.

I've missed the New Posts link, and thank God I now see it up again.

Off to hammer it :)
