I start the day with one and end it with one. Inbetween I cane about twenty. The thing is, I really enjoy it.

If you enjoy it, its no ones business to tell you to quit, in other words keep smoking :)

I've been packed up about 15 years now but I still think smoking is great !

I really enjoyed smoking but packed up for health reasons

I'm trying to start at the moment, loving it so far!

Is that your son in your avatar?

 Good for the economy too..

Last year I made my mind up to quit and picked a random date for 2012 - Feb 3rd. As luck would have it I was pointed to the local stop smoking clinic and I've been on patches; they gave me micro-tabs as well but I didn't need them :)

Giving up is soooooooooooooo easy.

I've lost count the amount of times I've done it

But in the mean time I shall continue to help the country by paying some exorbitant rate
of tax on a packet of 20.
(can you believe that the average price is around the £6 mark?)
And all those that said if they ever hit £1 for 20 I'm gonna quit?

Showing your age now, they were already over a £1 for 10 when I started

Oh I am not gonna say how much they were when I started ;)
Suffice to say that I could get change out of a quid for 20,
And have a good night down the pub, go the the cinema, and a curry after.

Ok so I lied about the last bit :D

Not easy giving up after 37 years. I'm tempted to give these battery operated cigarettes a go, but can't find a shop that sells them.

I can understand trying a first illicit cigarette behind the bike sheds at school, what I can't understand is having the second one. My one and only cigarette made me feel so ill with hot and cold flushes, cold sweats, very fast heartbeat and dizziness it put me off for life. I'm now in my mid fifties and haven't touched one since. In fact I find the smell repulsive.

Good to know.

Possibly the most pointless post I've seen in here for... A day or so :D

Really, if you read that list of what the daily mail has reported at some point can give you cancer, smoking is the least of your worries.

Then again the side effects of some tablets are scary too...

I agree with Stratman, fair play to everyone that has their vices but when its a health hazard to others people should be more considerate towards others, I dont mean this in any cheeky way or to start flaming others. If someone is walking in front of me, and belching out plumes of smoke, I will purposely hold my breath until I pass them. My mother and father smoked, and I never got used to the smell.

When the smoking bans for pubs and came into force I was happy (and yes I can see the point where a "pint and a smoke" is amazing to some people), but in such a small enclosed space, it isnt a good idea. A lot of businesses lost money, but think of the health gains for the country? can that not be a good thing?

Anyway slightly off topic, congrats to all those who stopped :-) And to the OP , fair play, we all have our vices/habits...

Smoked for 30 odd years, cigs, roll ups, pipe and various types of cigars. Gave up seven months ago with the help of patches. I didn't really want to give up but if I can't get fit I could loose my job. Needs must. Giving up was much easier than the getting fit part. :(

I never even tried the 1st one (not easily led by others). Have to agree the smell is disgusting and what is worse is the smell of stale cigarette smoke on the people after they have had one. Why anyone thinks smelling like an old ashtray is a good thing is beyond me.

the only time I ever smoked was when about 6 had a puff on grandads woodbine when he left it in the ashtray.....:gag::gag::gag::gag:

I gave up 22 months ago a few months before the birth of my daughter. I had been smoking for 20 tears and had been trying to give up for years but never managed it.
This time I used tablets (Champix) and had stopped within 4 weeks.
Giving up is easy, not starting again is hard. I still miss the morning fag with a cuppa and that satisfying smoke after a big meal!

I gave up 18 weeks ago. Smoked for 16 years, but thought it was time to quit and get healthy, glad i did too with 37p on a packet in the budget!

Had my last smoke 3.5 years ago. Only now do i realise how much it stinks sooooooo bad :gag: Sense of smell has increased so much and everything tastes so much more........... tasty :naughty:

I really, really love smoking BUT have successfully switched to e-cigs and not had a real one this year. I have an emergency pack in the house, just in case

I am a smoker, despite this I've given up many times, usually for 5 or 6 years at a time, usually for money reasons. I am currently a non-smoker but I have an electric cig instead (try liberty flights).

I once did some sums and worked out (from govt. figures) that the cost of smoking to the NHS is less than 1/5 of what the govt earns in taxes. So if we all give up smoking what would the tax be added to to make up the shortfall?

Once they started bashing smokers I said that soon they would start on drinkers then it would be sex - watch this space

btw - drinking is much much worse for you than smoking - go to A&E any Sat. night to see what I mean, look at all those homeless and hopeless through drink, broken families, domestic violence, drunk drivers etc etc

Can't stand smoking, it stinks, it makes people stink and taste vile when you kiss them, it looks unattractive, it's just beyond vile in every way shape or form. I also think its disgusting the way people become slaves to it and lose the ability to control the vice.

Its not like you to sit on the fence about anything,
You usually come right out and say what you mean :D

They are starting on drinkers but I think the next major target to be demonised as smokers have been, will be overweight people.
It is starting already.
