Nothing common about common sense

I always use warm water out of the tap.... never had any problems and been doing it for YEARS... boiling water is the problem. Warm water is not.

How can a heated front windscreen be patented? Surely that's like patenting a box on 4 wheels and calling it a car, so no one else can make one! Isn't there a patent then on the rear heated screen? What's the difference?

I'm guessing it's the actual specific design and not the concept which was patented. I think GM had one called Electriclear or something.

Well after struggling in the freezing temperatures last year, I've given in and bought a cover to put on my car overnight . . . and yes I know it looks silly !!!

The problem I have is that it's a hardtop convertible and in order to open the doors the windows automatically drop an inch when you pull the door handle . . . except when it's frozen and the window won't drop down! Which means that you have a car that you can't actually get into :bang: :bang: :bang:

Trying to scrape and de-ice around the window seals is neither easy, nor I suspect very good for the seals.
So making my car wear a silly hat seems a small price to pay to actually be able to get into the car.

have you tried parking it with the drivers door to the morning sun? it defrosts the widscreen for us every morning nb I dont go out too early :p

There's a lot of truth in that. My car was covered in thick ice yesterday morning and by 10am in had completely cleared. My neighbour across the road's car remained covered in thick ice the whole day.

And you constantly shovelling ice from yours onto his and running away had nothing to do with it :D

Today, I got in my car, waited a minute and then had to switch on the A. / C.; it's fraking 35C here :D

Tomorrow, I'll be going out filling my ice-box with ice to cool some Cola & Dr. Pepper as I will be doing an all-day shoot while you lot freeze your arses.

As for the lady in the OP; it helps to remember that many people have IQ that fluctuate, some have IQ that go hand-in-hand with ambient temperature.

broom for the loose then a Bucket of COLD water will clear the ice for you.

I personally sit in the car and wait for my heated windscreen to do the job for me :swarmy ****: I sometimes have a little scrape to really appreciate my HEATED FRONT WINDSCREEN.

oh yes, I love my heated front windscreen too . . . my problem is getting the damn door open so that I can turn it on :(

I park my car in my garage. Solves all this de-icing problem. It was -3 in the garage this morning but the screen was clear.

Number of people that complain about having to de-ice that who have a £50 mower and some childrens pushbikes in the garage rather than their car ...

Tried that. Only problem is that it's a newish house . . . the car will go in the garage, but there's no room to actually open the door to get out :bang:

:bat: we can ban smug so and so's you know! :p

. . . with electricity.

We're currently arguing whether it's a nice home studio / hobby room or gym / games room.
Guess which one I'm opting for :D

Someone turned ours into a flamin utility room 15 yrs ago.... threaten the gym/games room with additional features such as washing machine, dryer, freezer and dishwasher....should get you a studio/hobby room quick enough :D

I've often wondered about this - people pay for a perfectly good garage then leave the car on the driveway - people are essentially lazy i guess.

Not really. Most houses are built so small these days that the garage has more value as a storage facility. Tat and the fact that the garages themselves are built so small that you can't get in and out of the car once you park it in there! :bang:

Just be thankful you don't have a MINI or anything else that has frameless door glass :bang::lol:

 Unfortunately I do.
It's a hardtop convertible, and the windows need to drop an inch for the door to open . . . I guess that's the same problem you're referring too.
I've given in this year and bought a frost proof cover for it. Looks silly, but seems to be working so far.

I have a far better solution for cold frosty mornings.

I stay in bed until the car is defrosted

Tigra? Friend at work has one and I think she had the same problem last year and I'm sure it got damaged and ended up not going all the way up for a while. Subsequently she had quite a wet arse for a while until it was fixed.

 ....... Are we still talking about cars? ..... :D

My 'other' car lives permanently in my garage so there's definitely no room for the Cougar in there...
I had a play with the connections and it now (partially) heats across the whole screen again - still a few gaps, plus one wide on right in my field of view which is tiresome...
Tis ten years old though and been through the wars a bit...

   Well I am - I don't know about anyone else!

Ford Focus CC, but yes, sounds like the same problem. Love the car, but the window thing in the Winter is a real PITA (not to mention a wet arse if it breaks!)

freelander boot door was similar but was heated so less of an issue as long as you didnt need to load urgently, unfortulantely a be-atch when the motor went :S

Can some one please tell me where the common sense lies ---> to why the hell do people drive around with 4+ inches of snow all over their cars apart from the windscreen

 Is it just that they are bloody stupid or just damm lazy

Both

I'm trying to figure out why, when the outside temp is shown as -10 and the roads are covered in snow people still drive at 70 in a 50 zone....

Because they are Rick's with a silent P....

Then they wonder why they slam into the car in front....:cuckoo:

Hmm, I haven't that problem yet, but then we keep the de-icer in the kitchen (I got caught one year when it was in the boot and the led/lock was frozen :bang:

Heated front screen on my MINI is ace, but then I'm in the sheltered south
