Notes on windscreens

If only god could send a bolt of lightning down the writer of this note should receive it .what a c***

A mate of mine got back to his car in a well known major grocery store and saw that his rear lights had been smashed.
Oh well he thought, at least whoever did it left their name and address on the windscreen.
When he read the note it said 'The people stood round me think I am writing my name and address on this note'
Fortunately the stores CCTV gave him the culprit.

Modern society unfortunately...

And I don't mean the simple knee jerk 'selfish' situation.

If that car owner is late for something important because of the ambulance parked across his drive, what would be the outcome from:
His employer if he was late for work or for an important meeting
DWP if he was late to sign on or for a disability assessment
The NHS if he was late for an appointment
Family if he couldn't get to care for a sick relative

I'm sure there are many others, life is never black and white. The ambulance driver shouldn't have blocked someone's drive, but they probably didn't have much choice, I'm sure it was the lesser of some other evils.

What I find more bewildering is the fact that the paramedics were so put out by someone leaving a note on their screen that they had to give the story to a newspaper!

Can nobody let things go anymore FFS? It's just a note, throw it in the bin and move on with your day.

To be honest Phil it's more usually it's 'his space'...
We have friends that have a elderly neighbour that goes loopy if you park on the road outside his house as it's 'his space'. He has his car on his drive, it's nowhere near blocking him in yet he doesn't like anyone parking there.
I tried to have a polite conversation explaining it was a public road, but no, he's adamant it's his space outside his house.
We watched him last time move his car off his drive and park tight to the rear bumper of mine, even though it was completely free in front as I was parked level with our friends drive so it was no obstacle to me driving away.
Some people are just strange

More likely kept it to show colleagues, then probably a manager uses it to promote some of the difficulties the crews face. Gets into local news and then into nationals

About 30 years ago, we lived in a flat with the very elderly landlady 2 floors above us. She didn't drive but kept a car taxed, insured and MoTed parked under her balcony so nobody else could park there. At the time, I had a bike with a dead starter motor so always had to bump start it - she thought I was doing it for her benefit so I never disabused her of that idea!

Just to put the other point of view, it’s usually easy for an ambulance to park and not block a driveway given that no one going to give them parking tickets etc. Possibly it was one of those very tight cul-de-sacs where there is almost nowhere to park in the road without blocking a drive in which case the complainant is being unreasonable.

As far as i can tell, the story was shared on facebook, the media followed up on that.

If you read the link it was posted on the ambulance service social media, the news probably picked it up from there.

No different than if he had set off and the road was blocked because of an RTC. or is being blocked in your own drive worse?

I don’t know, I posed questions.

Some employers would just accept the story, some would issue a warning. That’s my point, we can’t ‘judge’ the writer of the note because we have no idea what the wider situation is. It’s easy to assume the note writer is just a selfish arse, but life is more complicated than that.

this must be a f***ed up down south thing i have to invite people to my road to make it look busy.

I live ‘up north’ in a flipping 30’s cull de sac,

There’s never any real falling out, but it can be a task to drive down the street some weekends.

Unless it's crash for cash, you can't really chose where to have an accident, an ambulance driver has a choice where to stop, a few meters earlier or later aren't going to change anything.

Yes, built for when people had one car at most but nowadays many (most?) have 2 cars. I visit friends in York where it is impossible not to block people’s drives but fortunately all are good natured though I can see how one awkward person/incident could make it all go pear-shaped.

It could also be the only place to park, is across a drive.

I doubt it. Most roads have double yellow lines on the approach to junctions and an ambulance could easily stop there in such an emergency.

Get real, or should emergency vehicles only be allowed to park where they don't inconvenience anybody?

In our street the road is narrow enough that cars can only park on one side making parking a premium.

On the (hopefully never to be repeated)occasion we had to do a 999 the ambulance parked in the middle of the road outside the house.
Sometimes there just isnt space or a nearby junction etc.

Most roads? That must be an Essex thing. ;)

My father in law takes his car off his drive every Sunday morning and parks it on the road outside his house to stop the church goers from parking outside his house. He does with with no intention of going out or need to make a journey during that time. This always tickles me as it's such a petty thing to do.

On the flip side, the church goers are ALL and I do not exaggerate here, they are ALL ridiculous parkers. They will park up and leave a gap which is literally 2" shorter than a car's length between each other. It's uncanny. So the locals and the congregation have a little standoff every week. How very Christian!

So what you are saying is they could stop in the middle of a set of traffic lights rather than drive on for a few more seconds and clear the junction.

That's a different situation though. The patient was already in the ambulance on their way to hospital.

I followed a church goer yesterday morning. They were about to park but must have decided the space was too small, carried on up the road at a snail's pace even though it was obvious there wasn't another space and they were then totally oblivious to all other traffic as they searched for somewhere to park.

If the neighbour did need to get out and want the ambulance to make way couldn't they just ask the driver to move the vehicle when it was appropriate? I sincerely doubt that the majority of ambulance are petulant enough to obstruct other people without good reason.. The neighbout may only have to wait a few minutes until the driver was available. So what good is the note, apart from irritating the ambulance staff?

In 1st gear I presume. I always remember the Sunday paper round, the birds singing and the old ladies taking their cars out for the only time that week and driving 200-300 yards at 20 mph in 1st. No chance of a lie-in for the neighbours.

Yes but where was the patient prior to being in the ambulance.....presumeably in a house so the ambulance has been parked and left unattended whilst they deal with the patient so to me its the same situation.

No they have the same in Kent too. Drove through several yesterday

They're a rarity in residential areas.
But if you were, for instance, visiting Brands, then it's simply to stop visiting numpties from parking like goons.

I was visiting Brands but then I always park inside the circuit.

Whereas taking his car out of the drive is really considerate.... still.. at least I’ll know how to tell whose a Christian now..

Just read that the poor sod died where that miserable git complained.
Probably p***ed that their drive was blocked for nothing

I live opposite a church and they are lunatics when it comes to parking, love a corner or pavement.
Maybe fear a smiting if they are late or worse no reservation upstairs

Last time I was there I parked on the circuit, well I say on the circuit, actually in a rather large gravel car park by Paddock hill bend as several of us took avoiding action

You'd be amazed how many park outside and walk in, in an attempt to beat the queues leaving.
