Quick question....I have a chance of buying not working F4 with grip for £60... they said they haven't done any tests...could it be just battery ??? Not sure if I should pull the plug ;)

Any electrical problem and it's probably going to be expensive (or you'd need a donor body) to fix. I'd avoid!

Okay :)

Depends on the returns procedure of course - could be an absolute bargain, and it's just some corrosion on the battery terminals?

just states that it doesnt power on and no further checks ...
so hard to say

Is it an F4 or an F4S?

sorry...4s !!

but on front of camera it only states F4

sorry...4s !!
Ok, they're not that rare so unless you're desperate probably give it a miss, although you'd probably get about that even being honest on ebay.

The F4 has a small battery grip the MB20, the 4S has a chunky motor drive type grip the MB21 and the F4E has the MB23 and has been on steroids.

Im pretty sure they all just say F4 on the body.

As the F100 is highly regarded it might be better to spend about £100 for a working one, than a gamble on a F4 for £60.....just a thought?

I wouldn't be gambling on an F4 at that price either. I do like the F4, but sold mine and got an F100 instead - it's a more advanced body altogether, though not as rugged. Suppose it depends on your purpose. Arguably with MF lenses the F4 is better/more compatible with metering etc. If you want an AF film body to use with AF lenses, you might be better off just getting an F100, or the absolute bargain of the century, an F80, which has pretty much the same bells and whistles as the F100 (including VR capability) but can be bought for around £20 on ebay, whereas the F100 is over £100 for a good one. Doesn't meter with MF lenses though. F80 is also much lighter and has a built in flash. I find it's great for snaps, holiday uses etc, for those reasons alone.

Without being able to view it prior to purchase, I'd give it a miss.

The F4 is totally battery reliant to operate so an electrical hiccup of any sort doesn't sound good to me.

That said, it could easily be somethng simple like FC2 says, battery contacts .

Perhaps talk with seller and see about buying it on agreement of say a 3 day testing period.....if no good then you return it.

Be sure all is clear between you both before you hand over any funds though.
