Found this site by accident and for me at least seems quite useful in seeing what areas look like, ive done a search on here and cant find any mention of it. Its by ordnance survey. You can zoom in/out and pan all over the uk looking at different view points. the numbers in each grid square is how many pictures there are of that area.

Thanks for this link. I think it's really interesting. I haven't had time to log in and look at places that are more accessible to me but it looks like a good resource to check out if you're planning a day out to take pics.

It reminds me a bit of the Doomsday Project way back in the 80s. I think you could home in on locations and it would display whatever photos had been supplied of that area. Does anybody remember that - or am I imagining it

Wasnt that on Laserdiscs ? and only available at libraries or something ? remember something like this being about but not as accessible.

I'd forgotten about that website, thanks for posting it,

gave me great inspiration for what to do with the kids this week (its easter hols) - we'll photograph our grid square.

The kids all got their own p&s at christmas so it'll be a good photo learning thing and a bit of history and local geography.

I just hope the weather is good.

thanks

That initial website you've posted is right where my store is :D

Yet there are no pics

Indeed!!

It would perhaps be more useful if the thread had a more helpful title. It's no use to anybody if they don't read it, and the title doesn't offer them any clue as to why they might want to bother reading it.

Open to suggestions, wasnt sure if it was already well known and didnt want to look silly putting my hand up saying look at this when everyone already knew about it.

Sorry, only just got back to this thread.

Yes, you're right. The College I was teaching in at the time had a copy and most people were too scared of the technology to try and use it! It's a shame, it was before its time.
