Hi all

I am looking at purchasing a couple of lenses and have been scouring the internet for the best prices. When i was first looking for my camera i was advised of those places to avoid.

Rather than focussing on the negative where would people recomend i shop for camera equipment?

People might know of a good local dealer so where do you live?

I live near Middlesbrough and there's a place in town called RGB Photo and they give a good service and seem to offer good prices, they have a web site too...

http://www.rgb-photo.co.uk/

I have no connection to them but I have bought from them several times. Other than that company I've used Bristolcameras and Warehouse Express without problems.

Yeah good point.

I live down south in Surrey. I am close to Reigate, Crawley, Croydon and Sevenoaks.

If anybody knows of any good shops that i can visit that are competitive then even better.

For 'new' - Jessops, Warehouse Express and Park Cameras are probably the best-known and most reliable online sellers.
Park have a 'real shop' down there in Buggers-Hill and Jessops still have a few high street branches kicking around.

London Camera Exchange (I think) merged with City Camera Exchange to become CCE a while back and they're OK as well...

If I buy 2nd-hand, I go to Gray's of Westminster (expensive but very reliable and well-respected with 1yr guarantee) or Mifsud's 'oop North'...
Unless, of course I buy from another Forum member, which is the very best way to buy, naturally...lol

mifsuds are in brixham rob, if they were further south they'd need boats :p

for new I use camera price buster

Fortunately i am in that there London town today and not far from Holburn so will try and find your recommendations.

Problem with Jessops, as everybody knows, is they are so expensive.

I am also using camera price buster and the cheapest is a place called Martin's camera shop.

You want best price, order it over the internet. If you want to walk in and touch and feel it, buy it from a shop.

You won't get both.

devon camera give regulars online prices, so get my business a lot of the time. Just that they dont carry any lighting kit :(

i have touched and felt what i want but most shops are in excess of £50 more than online retailers. However i dont want to go online and buy from a shop front which is based in the far east or that specilaises in grey imports. I tried jessops at lunch time they had what i wanted in stock i showed them 3 online retailers that have it at various prices all lower than theirs. I suggested we go for the price that was between theirs and the lowest and i even said we could add the next day postage price, this was working out at £30 cheaper than them, they wherent interested. So i said how about the most expensive online shop plus postage, worked out at £20 cheaper than jessops they still wherent interested. They said that demand was too high to match prices. I left the shop. I have one more shop to try before heading home and if no joy their an online retailer can have my money.

They're a husband-and-wife internet shop based in Yorkshire. They operate in a similar way to Kerso, from everything I've heard about him, but they have a web store.

I've bought a couple of Canon primes from them in the past. Very competitive on price. Good, personal service (e.g. phoning me up to let me know what's happening when they're waiting for stock).
