NOT for the nature lovers ...

It's a tough one. Personally I wouldn't do it. But you can't stop people from thinking it will be OK. Sometimes it is (and those chicks seem to be thriving), but the times it isn't is one of the contributing factors to the decline of some species of birds. Now that is sad, and it's only really for self satisfaction. Certainly not for the benefit of any of the birds if they die.

If I REALLY wanted to get some nest shots I would buy one of the nest boxes with a built in webcam. Then I would be able to take as many shots as I like without even approaching the nest box. Plus the added bonus of being able to record hatching's, feeding times and then the ultimate fledging (is that even a word?) of young would make it money well spent.

Our birdbox has 4 Great Tit eggs in it just now, I've fitted it with an infra-red camera and broadcast it using WebcamXP.

A bit geeky but me & Mrs G can watch it from the office or on our mobiles :geek:

Not the slightest bit geeky, I would love to do something like that and derive the same pleasure you and Mrs G are enjoying from it .

Ohhh MrGrubby, is there any way you can link us up so we can watch it? :D

I made the camera box 5 years ago & so far we've had 4 x great tits & 1 x blue tits.

The camera isn't on 24/7 (as the americans say ;)) but if it's on the address is

It looks like four chicks with two eggs left to hatch, I'm off to get myself some cigars :D

Okay Mr. Gubby. How does one go about building one of these webcam bird nests? My son is loving it and I'd love to do it for one of our Robins

I bought a cheap infra-red mini cam + 15m cable from fleabay (cost £18) and fitted it to a homemade nest box (homemade to save money ) .

You can then watch it on TV or plug it into the PC using a video-USB box (£10 on fleabay)

It's easy, just screw the camera to the inner lid of box & plug in cables. Not techy at all :)

I've just moved the birdcam onto a dedicated PC so it should be running 24/7. If anybody has any problems with it please drop me a PM & I'll try and sort it out :)

Holy maloney - this is awesome MyGrubby... fantastic to watch. Thanks for posting this here.

Funny you should say that.......

I was going to organise a poll to select which chick left first then get Davina to interview them

Awww  How sweet! I didn't think I'd be able to see anything at this time of night, but there is one of the parents keeping babies nice and warm :D

It looks like the chicks will be leaving the nest sunday/monday.

I've put a colour cam outside the box to watch the maiden flights , I didn't want to put it too close incase I spooked them :)

All five baby Great Tits have left the nest, the Birdbox cam is off until next spring :)
