I've been getting this error when trying to access a location over a network in a LAN. All running Windows 7 64 bit. I've tried increasing the IRPStackSize on both computers but it still keeps happening. Would there be anything else I could try? Only seems to happy on one computer.

I also get this message: "The local device name is already in use"

I can access the drives fine through Command Prompt though.

Got norton av installed?
Are you using a blank password?
Is the share setup correctly
What version of windows 7?

Are you using a blank password? Each user has their own username and password to connect to the shared drives
Is the share setup correctly I think so, been working fine for a long time. Everyone has their own IP address reserved also.
What version of windows 7?[/QUOTE] Unfortunately it's Windows 7 Home Premium so I can't access the Group Policies etc but I have added a registry value LmCompatibilityLevel to see if this works.
 
Aye, Word, Excel and Outlook. Could it be causing the problem? So far so good since adding the LmCompatibilityLevel to the registry but I fear it will just happen again.
 
I played for hours trying to get round this on windows 8.1, never managed it. On windows7 though it was ok, does a reboot clear it for a while?

Your in the area with IRPStackSize, I believe, adding the value to the reg and increasing it is the way round with win7.

I ended up buying a diskstation and moving all my shared stuff to a unit that was built to do the job, end of problems but only after a month of trying!
 
I've decided to replace this computer, it's not the greatest and was inherited so will build one from scratch. Could do with an SSD drive anyway :)

So far the problem hasn't resurfaced, fingers crossed!
 
And it's back! lol

I've just noticed whilst this computer is Home Premium all the others are Windows Ultimate. Time to upgrade the OS also me thinks.
 
When I googled your issue I found some people reported office as changing the IRP stack size back to its default value each time it was started up. Is this a business or home network?
 
I never knew that, interesting. I think the main issue could be windows home premium though and probably other things messing it up.

Got a custom PC built as I didn't have the time and put windows ultimate on it and all has been perfect. Much faster as well!
