Jan had entered into a dressage competition this morning and when I got there I discovered it was in an indoor arena, considering the weather probably not a bad choice!

The lighting was awful so I used the Auto ISO feature on the D3 and this image was taken at 1/400th, f/4 and a whopping ISO 4000, the quality at such a high ISO always staggers me particularly when you think how bad it was with the last generation of Nikon cameras.

Bl*%dy brilliant I'd say! Mmmm do I need a D3.......

very impressive, only hope the d700 can get somewhere near that as well

and how did Jan do?

Nikon really seem to have sorted the noise issues with the D3, wonder what the next gen will bring?

Impressive, how did Jan do? you were lucky to be there in the morning as apparantly people got very wet after lunch!!

I need to get me one of them!

Wow, ISO4000. Don't look grainy one bit. Amazing

Tony

Thanks everyone, it is an amazing piece of kit.

Were you there Susie? The place was bloody heaving and considering how busy it was Zeus did very well for a youngster. They came 8th out of about 38 so pretty good, but like last week we are just treating these as training exercises to get him used to travelling, different locations, crowds etc

The noise control is stunning......your composition leaves something to be desired though.......look at the woman right behind Zeus's head

Only messing Col.....if I actually used a camera enough to warrant a new purchase.....that'd be the one I'd go for.

Mine is not going to shows at the moment but hopefully it will not be long now. Its always busy there though and can be spooky for youngsters with the noise as people go alongside the arena.

Just got back from another day out at Law Hopsital, and the D3 again made the need for a flash non existent. Had no problem hand holding in low light, although to be fair, in the really dark areas I still choose to use my tripod.

It is an awesome bit of kit.

Gary.

There's no doubt that the new range of both brands is producing some fantastic results. Just for comparison I was taking a shot tonight for something and needed ISO3200. I've attached it as a linky full size. Straight from the 1D MkIII with no processing.

Wow - proves that all those £££ are worth something after all! Stunning

Question to Colin - did you use any processing to reduce the noise?
