Just phoned OUlton Park and they send I am not allwoed to go onto the race track itself to take pictures of the circuit :(

b****r!

All well, off to do some research for where to go.

Thanks

Matt

Did you make it clear you did not want to do it while cars were on the track?:D

bit harsh i think!

Health and safety, You may slip on your shoelace on shell oil corner.

Part of the trick with this sort of thing is getting through to the right person.

Talk to the right person with a well written letter or proper telephone conversation and things happen. Talk to the wrong person, or the right person in the wrong way and they'll just say no.

Yeah that is true. I did explain who I was and what I wanted to do and why :)

is there anywhere to cross the track? and you could stop in the middle and take pics?

sounds harsh them not allowing it when in theory it would help them in the future

It is all to do with H&S Matt.

No so long ago, a group of kids/youths were pratting about on push-bikes on the circuit at Cadwell (another MSV circuit) at night in the dark. I think it was during the BSB wekeend meeting.

One of them fell off and injured himself quite badly needing paramedic attendance.

As MSV are liable for their premises and have a "duty of care" to all visitors to those premises, they have to safeguard their interests mainly cos jerks fool around, get injured and then sue even though they're in the wrong and should be told to **** off.....

 I have tryed that at race meets but normally you have to rush across.

Yeah, but that is the way it goes.

If someone gets injured it serves them right for being incompetent. It is not like Palmer pushed him off his bike is it :bang: :bang:

Stupid idiots and stupid Nanny State :bang:

You could just happen to stop by with some of your best shots and see if they would like to use them for advertising purposes and let slip in the conversation that you would like to take pictures of the track (once they realise what a swell guy you are), possible that that type of aproach will bear more fruit. Also I think they have to insure track side photographers, could be that H&S requires that you be insured as well and the cost for one outing is simply too much......might be wrong there though.

Dead easy Matt. go along the night before a race meet and 'Walk the Track', I have walked, Oulton Park, Brands Hatch, Mallory Park, Donnington Park, Cadwell Park and the TT circuit at Assen.

Call them up, tell them "YOU'LL LIVE TO REGRET THIS!" followed by evil cackle and hang up :)

that is a very good plan, thank you.

You could insist on being chaperoned

you could find out about becoming a marshal
technically they arent allowed to take photos, but at least it gets you on track

I would rather be behind the camera tbh.

I've walked the track a lot this year as well.

I wil try next year.

Hmmm, how much of a bag of crap is that bridge, all boxed in with wood.

I didn't have any problem getting on track - without a car :D:lol:

Do Oulton hold two day events where you can camp over? Assuming they do, access in the evening might be possible if you are camping there. At the few weekend events I've been to and camped at, loads of drivers are usually walking/cycling the track in the evening after dinner anyhow, so whilst it may not be strictly allowed, you should blend in!

Another bonus is the nice light, I took these after 9pm at Castle Combe:

It was alright. Set of Friday afternoon. Pitched camp at the grassy area near the scruitneering bay (where I met you) at the back of the paddock. Unhitched trailer and headed off for a curry.

Went to a takeaway with a restaurant attached but it wasn't really very good. Any recommendation for next year?

Cadwell however was so muddy and rained all weekend. Pretty miserable really especially as there isn't much in the way of hard surfaces in the paddock and it turns into an automotive Glastonbury.

better value than the cafe in the circuit.
chips were £2, or sausage and chips £6.. thats £4 for a sausage
and lemonade was £3 for a pint.

If its a one night stop over we'll just take a camp cooker for morning breakfast and we'll stop en-route for a curry or something.

If its a two night or three night stop, we'll take more stuff for evening meals.

I don't like to see young 'uns disappointed, so I did a little phoning round for you Matt. and I am about to PM you with an email address for a nice young lady who is going to try and help you pick a date when you can get on the track ;) Provided you understand it will have to be a day when there is absolutely no traffic or works going on.
