I'm on the waiting list for Louis Molloy 'the guy that did Beckhams guardian angel', it was 11 months when i joined it, 6 and a bit months to go.

And he's in Manchester and i'm in Wakefield. So dozens of studios in between us.

The way i look at it is, it's on your body for life, why not pay for / wait for / go to, the best you can find.

I haven't got any at the min, and i'm only planning on having one (though that might change lol), of my own design as i'm an artist myself, so i'll see any mistakes a 'half decent' local one would make that the average tattoo wearer probably wouldn't even notice, and that'd drive me mad every time i looked at it.

agree fully, i waited 12 months for mine on the waiting list and this is the finished article.

what style have you got ?

i would be similar to yourself, dont like the design but the art is great in a lot of tattoo's

Live for the moment for it may be your last...

I love body art, the only things I would ever say though are go to someone that you have trust and confidence in as well as make sure that it's something that you want, not just a passing phase, so I completely agree with you. There's no point going to someone that you have no confidence in!
 
There is some stunning work out there. My Stepson who lives with us is 19 and that is all he has ever wanted to do. He is pretty good at art and is working at a local tattooist where he does a few designs, in return he is being trained to do them as well. He has done a few now, needle-ss to say I lock my door when I go to sleep at night :lol:

This is my local tatt shop. They have some cracking artists there! (Including my friend's better half :D) Usually if they have a waiting list, they ARE worth waiting for.

Oh I know. They did a portrait of my friend's late brother on her shoulderblade and it is just stunning. She waited 8 months and it took many visits.
 
The problem i have with them is that they follow fashions and therefore look out of fashion very quickly. Inked people think there are being alternative or different but then have the same tat as everyone else that's tattooed that year. One particular image will be in fashion for a while and everyone has it then it gets replaced. You can read them like a book, "you had that one in the mid 90's that one late 90's" etc.. I'm no expert and probably missed out a few, but in chronological order in my adult life its gone a bit like this. Celtic/Tribal bands symbols, Japanese symbols, Stars and now Koi Fish usually Incorporated into a sleeve.

robert, that only applies to people getting tattoed with flash artwork that have little insight and real interest in the subject.

If you walk into a tattoo shop and pick something out of a book then yes you are often one of the people described above.

Here's a photo of my brother in laws leg - completely original concept thought of by himself and designed by his tattoist - it will never go out of fasion because it was never in fashion in the first place

Amazing work, but can I just say.....ouch.
 
And can I add that it's not an original concept either! A friend of mine who was killed about 20 years ago had something very similar (A dragon with faces etc. in the scales). I very much doubt that there are any truly original concepts left in any field.
 
No disputing that, it's a fine piece of work both in design and execution. I'll see Ruth's "Ouch!" and raise her a "Don't do behind my knee, it tickles!"...

you missed the point.

It was in response to the comment that everyone gets tattoos that are in fashion around a style. I was illustrating that isnt always the case.

I'm sure there are plenty of tattoos where someone has put a face in a scale. The originality here is in the kinds of faces chosen and that each one is a complete original peice of artwork that came from the tattooist and brother in laws head
 
Your exact words were " completely original concept thought of by himself and designed by his tattoist " and it isn't/wasn't. The actual artwork may well be (although the Cheshire cat looks extremely familiar...) but the concept isn't.

That looks more like an illustration or body paint than a tattoo. Quite well done but it just doesn't look quite right - and the lack of a belly button gives it away too!

That was taken from a tattoo designers website he was displaying some of his work I believe.

As an aside, I've had to insure my 'bike even though it's been garaged since July (if not longer) so used it last week for the first time in 6 months or so. I had to adjust 2" or more out of the chin strap of my helmet (no, not a euphemism!) because it no longer has to accommodate so many chins!

Agreed. I'm trying to find the website it came from. How come you can find things when you don't want them but never when you do :bang:.

I'm on my iPad and its set to private browsing so it clears every time you close the page. I found it through google so that's what I'm searching through now.
