I know that all images could do with a bit of sharpening, but, when you are specifically looking at image quality from the lens, surely it should be as shot!

I'd say you were right - if you read the comments someone asked the same thing, the reason given is because it's like focusing an enlarger in the darkroom :thinking:

He also says that if a consumer lens get sharper stopped down then it's fine which ignores the whole front/back focus issue which can only be checked wide open.

Thanks for the answer pxl8, i thought i it was just me missing something.
 
reading this thread had reminded me that i hadn't registered the 24-70 i bought a few weeks back,so i rang sigma to do so..and when i gave the serial number to them,they informed me that the lens didn't come from them and was a grey import :bang:.the lens was bought from microglobe in london,and i paid UK VAT on it...so WTF :shrug:.i was told i had a years warranty,and that i should go back to microglobe and sort it with them.i'm not sure what good it will do though,and they certainly don't advertise the fact that they sell grey imports..
 
I have sent my Sigma 100-300 F4 back to 7dayshop asking for a refund , they agreed to this via email this morning.
If I replace with same I will ask selling dealer if the lens is a Sigma Imaging UK import first .

I dont know if anyone knows the answer to this, but, if like myself you unknowingly buy a grey import and the seller gives 12 mths warranty, they say that the lens has to be returned to them if something goes wrong within that period. Thats normal isn't it, your contract is with the supplier not the manufacturer. So what happens then, Sigma UK will not honour the lens under warranty so does the seller bite the bullet and pay for the repair or would they just ship out another lens to you?
Another thing has just occured to me. It seems that many companies do not seem to tell you if the lens they sell you is imported unless asked. Any legal implications to this. Or am i just being a little naive when i see, what i think is a bargain. :naughty:
 
just spoken to microglobe,and they tell me that due to sigmaUK not having the lens in stock,they get them from the USA,japan etc..they also told me that they would honor the warranty themselves provided that i have the receipt of sale,and that the work would be carried out by sigmaUK.

i suppose the only way i'll know if they are true to their word is if i need anything doing to the lens...:shrug:
 
ask them to sign a document stating that (and give you an original, signed copy), and say that you only purchased the lens because you where lead to believed that it would come with the warente
 
I emailed microglobe asking them are their Sigma EX lens sourced from Sigma UK , received a reply today stating their lens are imported from Japan with 12months warranty by themselves.
My Sigma was received by 7dayshop today and I was notified that a refund has been given ( awaiting cofirmation ) , so pleased with how they handled my concerns.

just to back up what f-i-t-p said the e-bay sale says and i quote (its sigma ) as if its a common fault they recieve all the time :shrug::shrug:
just hope mine dosnt go wrong:shake:

buy it back of e-bay you now know the problem and if it can be sorted by sigma out of warranty for a reasonable price you just might get a bargain:lol:

Just looked on e bay, the lens is up to £51 with just over 3 hrs to go. Keeping an eye on it.
Rusty you know it makes sense:lol: £39.99 + postage for recalibration with sigma.:thumbs:
