Yesterday was possibly the most crappy day I have had in some time, and I feel like I need to let out some anger...

Phone call at work around 10AM, can I please rush home, My fiance is being rushed into hospital. Jump on the bike get home to see her lying on the sofa struggling to breath. We both already knew what it was, once again she was suffering a spontaneous tension pneumothorax (2nd time in 2 years)
I jumped into the ambulance with my Brother in law following behind shortly behind on my bike (insured to ride any bike 3rd party usual crap) got to the hospital. Rushed through where they put in a chest drain and morphine.

I look around and realize my brother in law isn't there. Phone up to be told, "Hey mate, so so sorry, My insurance company haven't updated the MID (Database coppers use) and so they have seized your bike until you can prove you own and insure the bike"

So - So far my fiance is in a serious health risk situation and now my bike has been seized...

Partner going through a few things, was told to pop back later so went home and phoned the company responsible for my bike seizure. Told they can release it MONDAY to the tune of £150. Even though I CAN claim that money back eventually through the local force, in the mean time I have to stump up £150

AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!

Good news is my partner is OK(ish) now, they think she will be coming out of hospital possibly Wednesday or Thursday. I'm going to pick the bike up and then go see her this afternoon.

Ok story gets worse, Brother in law has now announced that he Isn't insured, the papers I saw was an old policy that he changed...
 
Sounds like a horrid day. What does your BIL's revelation mean. Does it mean you can't get your bike back?
 
That's bad news for him, 6 points, a fine and a massive insurance increase.
 
I've managed to get the bike back anyway because I am insured etc. Does mean though if the police get arsey about it they can charge me with 6 points as well as I allowed him to ride it.

They can charge me based on:

The offences under Section 143 Road Traffic Axt, 1988 are

(1)Using, or
(2)Causing, or
(3)Permitting

a vehicle to be on a road without third Party insurance in force.

Obviously and in a nutsghell

(1) is where you are driving your own vehicle or in the case of a Company vehicle being used on the firms business, driver and Company both liable where no Insurance in force. (Special defence for employees using a vehicle in ignorance of lack of cover)
(2) Directing someone to drive - no Insurance in force either side
(3) Allowing a vehicle to be driven without Insurance. But a person does not permit if he allows another to use it only ON THE EXPRESS CONDITION that that person would first Insure it. (Newbury v David [1974]

The newbury V David is the important bit though as it explains that because I specifically said that he MUST be insured before taking the bike, by not having any he technically took the bike without my consent.

That said it dont arf' make things awkward in the family :(

Good news though Penny (My fiance) is home today :D

I could be wrong, but could be worse for Jemdna, for allowing him to ride it uninsured....

sounds like a pretty crap day all round mate, but the important thing is that your partner is improving and will hopefully be ok in a day or 2 - the rest is just irritation by comparison. Big virtual hugs for all of you :thumbs:
 
Glad your fiancé is getting home. That's good news! Hope the rest gets sorted ok. Sounds like a right mess :(
 
**** man, I thought I'd had a bad day, and that was just work. You can sort the bike out, thank God your lass is better. Big hugs coming your way.
 
Dude, that'll suck if you get points too. 6 is a lot to carry on your bike licence for an insurance related issue. Hope it turns out OK.
 
Ok

Police have informed me they wont be pressing any charges or fines against me as they understand that at the time, the conditions given to my brother in law stated he must have insurance and as such, he now may be charged with taking a vehicle without consent

I have forwarded all your wishes to my fiance, she is so so happy to receive messages from a community she has never met (yet)
Good news is she now has to take the next few weeks very easy so I feel now is a good time to kick her up the ass and push her photography :lol:

Depressingly I just added up the fines for storage, petrol to collect etc... £230 :( Needless to say my brother in law WILL be paying it.

Glad to hear that Penny is OK and that the police are being decent about it and not pressing charges against you.They may be able to waive the fee you had to pay as they know you were under immense stress.I hope so.

Sue - The police won't waiver the fee because as far as they are concerned (and I suppose rightfully so) they did actually catch an uninsured rider and as such, liable for the charge.

The BiL isn't saying a lot and keeping out of my way, probably a good idea as I'm not one to leave debts outstanding to long :lol:

well if you want to get arsey about it you can say it was Twoc'ed (taken without owners concent) its kind of like stealing but not.
 
Ok Penny has had a phone call, shes been referred to Papworth Hospital on an emergency waiting list, she should be in for an operation within the next 2 or 3 weeks. Good news I guess as it means they are sorting things but it dont half make me worry still :(

If I remember correctly... Repeated episodes of pneumothoraces usually involves correctional surgery doesn't it? Did she have tube drainage first, was there an issue with this? Or is it to prevent it in the future?
 
On both occasions they have had to put in chest drains to relieve pressure after both went into tension.

We are waiting for the final say from the consultants about the surgery but in practice they irritate the lining of the lung to make it restick to the chest cavity (or something :lol:)
 
A&E Last night - Chest pains and shortness or breath. Put it down to irritation of the lung due to where the chest drain was. Needless to say glad its nothing serious but downside is here I am at work, with avg 3 hours sleep in the last 4 days :(

Consultant booked Penny in for the 13th (!?) of June, They are going to remove a small section of the lung, and then spray the lung/lining with somethjing(?) to make the lung stick to the chest cavity. Est 3 to 4 nights in hospital :(

(Some) Karma last night - The brother in law is now having a bit of a fit, seeing as he received post from his old adress, 2 speeding tickets sitting there, so 6 points plus 6 for failure to provide insurance and he could well be loosing his liscence!

i would say good on that part , i would also say good on the part of the police using commonsense , and i will also say good that your fiancee is getting sorted , they say things come in three's :thumbs:

Hey guys :)

She had her operation yesterday and all went well. They have removed 2 sections of her lung including a section that (somehow) had a hole in it. She now has chest drains in as they expel the last bits of air from the chest cavity. Unfortunately they have said she may have to attend a "Pain clinic" for a while as nerve damage can occur during the procedure. (Backed up by the amount of pain she is currently in)

We are hoping she will be back home by Friday (ish)

As for the bike, it doesn't matter anyway as riding home from papworth hospital on the Sunday, i managed to seize the engine :rage:
 
Back from the hospital again, still no major progress :( Due to the pain she is in, they are using strong opiates to medicate, this though has an effect on respiratory function. The result is that no matter how well the lung is trying to do, not enough air is actually flowing through. Been told its just a "Sit tight and wait" type thing.
