hi ... new here...and joined as I've recently moved up from a " Point - Shoot " to a Nikon D40 and have lots to learn

Two points - I would like to buy a "Speedlight"
and... my family have a collection of an Canon A1 and 3 mint lens + Canon bits, in dry storage since 1991

No use to me but I had hoped to pass them on to someone who would appreciate this classic from the 70's

I find I have to make 100 posts.....:cuckoo: .....why?
I'll never do that whilst reading the Tutorials
and I loathe going down the "Welcome...." route just to rack up the numbers

i bought a mint 55-200 Nikon VR from AVForums with no problems whatsoever as a newcomer recently

anyway - shall enjoy reading all your advice...John

Welcome to the forums :)

The 100 posts (and 30 days since registration) are in place to prevent people joining the forum with the sole intention to sell items. This is after all a photography forum and not ebay. I am sure in the next 30 days there are many people that would appreciate your comments on their photos.

P.S - It isn't possible to 'rack up the numbers' in the welcome section, as this area doesn't add to your post count (neither does Out Of Focus).

Why is quite simple, most of the members here have been kicking around for a good while and those new, well, hopefully they will stick around too :)

I think the idea is to stop people joining just to "shift" gear but to encourage people to become full and participating members.

So welcome, now get on with posting! :)

:welcome: to TP

You can buy from the Classifieds, just not sell. It might sound a little harsh, but it's great way of keeping the TP Sales Forum as a safe place for everyone - you know it makes sense

the lenses have waited 18 years . 1 more month wont hurt :)

welcome to the forum, and reviewing submitted photo's is a great way to get the post count up. Reviewing photo's and reading more experienced comments is also a good way to pick up tips,do's and don'ts

thanks for that - I also keep tropical fish - one reason to buy the D40 was I'd like to learn about close-up flash
in my "Fish Forum", an annoying number welcome everyone - even if they are screaming for "Help" - just to rack up their posts :bang:
thanks again
John

yeah - i knew that - but a 100 posts is very daunting to a "learner" as there is little I can add ATM
thanks anyway

quite understand and agree...........

but rather than just hoping a Speedlight "may" come up for sale,
i wanted to advertise in the Wanted section
better chance of sparking some interest ? - but can not

dont mean to rock the boat as a newbie

It won't take as long as you thought - if you're after some information, post some questions about photographing your fish setup - there are quite a few members here who are a little fishy.

<O)))><

Welcome to TP

By the time you have asked all the questions to get you going and made a comment or two on peoples photos (even if it is only to say that you like/ dislike it) you will be very close to the magical 100 posts

Enjoy the D40 as it is a cracking camera.

Once again, welcome to TP...

it's surprising how quickly that 100 posts can come up if you get stuck in and participate in the community. I originally felt that I'd little to contribute on a technical level, but then wandered into the competitions section, and found that there was something I could contribute, doing a leaderboard for the POTY competition. What i'm saying is, if you try and behave like a member of the community, you'll be one in short order. If you act like a lurker, you'll probably end up staying an outsider. We're a friendly bunch by and large... honest :)

Let's hope that an Administrator will not reset your posts counter as he did two times in my case.

I have more than 100 posts and more that 30 days of the membership but I still can't post anything for sale.

Hi John, and :welcome: to TP.

And I'm sure you remember why that was ;)

What am missing here

Welcome to TP i joined not long before you and was amazed how quick the magic 100 came up. Once you have found things out and started learning about us it's amazing how much time you end up on here. Try posting a few of your pix for us to look at you will find out a few simple metheds to improve them. Just remember the comments are constructive and not ment to put your shot down.:welcome:

Hi I thought very much the same way as you when I joined the forum. I had lots of Nikon 35mm stuff to sell and was upset knowing it would take months to reach the magic 100.
What I did was sell my stuff on eBay and believe me I got a lot more for it than I would on here. Kit on this forum seems to sell for much more realistic prices. Then I bought from here. "simple tchhh"

.... Then I bought from here. "simple tchhh"

LOL ... so there's always a way !!
I managed to get a SB400 Speedlight here after all - from a very helpful seller "whitey"
then good advice and purchases from "FITP" about items needed for off-camera use

now i can bug all the fish experts how to macro a tiny catfish going 90mph

so a nice start for a new member - and "Thanks" for all the welcomes !!
