Northern lights

Us "up north" are supposed to have some chance of seeing pretty colours in the sky tonight due to the sun getting a bit excited and loosing a bit of it's self the other day.

The question is....... Is there much chance of capturing it with a Nikon D40 if I can get away from ground light sources or would I need some very expensive kit that I'm not going to be able to afford or get?

exposure about half a minute
ISO 400 plus

Bulb mode is in your shutter speed settings.

My apologies but that is actually very funny

Bulb mode means holding the shutter open for a period of time longer than the camera can!

I'm trying to learn terms and am getting quite a few but obviously not quick enough.

There was a long thread running last night on the Northern Lights including some tips. Don't think much was visible in the end though.

More cloud here tonight than last night.

Got to have pretty thick skin to keep this amount of fat in.

Cloud just starting to break up here at the coast near Newcastle. Fingers crossed it will keep going.
