North Yorks Moors Railway platform access?

I am having a couple of days in Scarborough this coming weekend (14,15&16 Feb) and am thinking of poping over to the N.Yorks Moors railway to take a few shots. Does anyone know any information/charges for accessing the platforms to get some up close stuff at any of the stations along the route. Also any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated as I have never tried this subject before.
 
No charges for accessing the platforms etc. if you park at the station in Pickering and Goathland there is a parking charge. If it's raining the station at Pickering is good because it's covered. The station fills up with steam / smoke and on a sunny day this really enhances the beams of light coming through the windows onto the platform. The working yard at Grosmont is worth looking at. There are some great shots to be had with the North York Moors as a backdrop and plenty of bridges to catch the locomotives passing over.
 
Thanks for the replys guys. Going to have to study the timetable and figure out where to be,as I dont think there are that many trains this time of year. Would hate to get there as one is pulling out of the station knowing its going to be 3 hours before it comes back again. Any suggested locations to get the trains coming over any road bridges etc?
 
A lot of the route is rather inaccessible, especially in winter.
South of Goathland area is quite good and not too far from the road, I always rather like Levisham - and the drive to the station is a bit special too.

Just outside Glaisdale Station at Beggar's Bridge is a good spot, the loco's are going slow in and out of the station, and you can get close. The only other 'over' bridge I know is at Thomason Foss going towards Goathland, but that's not a road bridge.
 
Should be ok this weekend if its half term in that neck of the woods

I was up that way recently and spent a few hours at the prisoner of war camp museum (Edenbridge) just outside Malton. Interesting enough, good value for six quid although crap for photos because all the exhibits had orange ownership signs on them.

That's the nearby Esk Valley line and does not regularly have steam trains, although they do use the last section from Grosmont to Whitby.
Grosmont or Goathland are quite good spots though.

Thanks for that, it is quite a while since I was up there! Planning to go again this year sometime.
