nice b&w beach shot ,,and i like the gentle colours of the portra nice set overall . the first one with the stones is a bit strange ,they could be really little or huge ,,but i cant tell because theres no sense of scale to go by ,,,
well done mate looking forward to the rest ( from everyone else as well )

Finally got my films back from Peak and scanned in, and I've been working hard to reduce them down from around 100 to just 12. I know I should have got it down to 6, but there's too much fun to share! Cameras were my Pentax ME (bought from new), Pentax MX (charity shop), and the borrowed Mamiya 645.

1) Taken the evening before, on the pier. Expired Ektachrome E200 in the ME. This is after a massive tint shift away from magenta!

2) Tri-X in the M645

3) Tri-X in the MX

4) Also Tri-X in the MX (so this is what "that bloke was photographing under the pier", as one of the others was asked)

5) Portra 400 in the M645 (the first time I have scanned this film, I think; nicely muted colours)

6) Portra 400 in the M645 again. Bunch of reprobates I met; incomplete (Suz was still on her way from a distant parking spot, but would probably have hidden behind Dean or Andy anyway). Clearly there will be revenge for this shot!

Part 2... I'll stop soon, honest!

7) Portra 400 in the M645... the tram up to the top of the Great Orme, taken just before my 3rd meal of the day... I think it was called "lunch"...

8) Portra in M645. Not really sure what's caused the colour artefacts bottom right, but the light was nice!

9) Portra in M645. The view up the estuary towards Llandudno Junction, and Snowdonia, I guess. What I found on the other side of the hill I legged up!

10) E200 in the ME. The other Chris with his LF camera; he's been working for half an hour, and in another few minutes he'll get the shot! I did get a black and white one of Chris using his fleece as a dark cloth, but perhaps I'll save that in case I ever need to exert influence over the LF folk...

11) Portra in M645. "Sunrise" next morning, just after 7. This was the last MF shot. Other shots on E200 with the ME are completely different colours; you'd think it had been the best sunrise ever instead of quite a muted affair!

12) Tri-X in MX. Later on Sunday, after having walked round Great Orme, same direction as (9) but lower down and the tide out.

I think it's fair to say my experiment with out-dated Ektachrome has not been a success!

I especially liked these from your batch of shots....
Of all of them though, the last one is my favourite.

These are all excellent Chris...but the last one really floats my boat, superb composition and lovely tones and light.
Not sure why Dean is photographing Robs groin and surely medium format isn't required..... 110 maybe.:-)

Thanks guys. I was lucky with that lady and her dogs in the last one. BTW this was late morning, not evening as it might appear!

One of the nice things about that "group shot" is the lady in the background whose arm exactly mimics Rob's and Nick's arms! Maybe Dean is really photographing her...

That was a really fun day. Thanks for organising it, Andy.

BTW Andy I really liked you "seagull on a pole shot". And your "back along the pier" shot was much better than any of my 4 attempts.

Next time perhaps I should remember Woodsy's dictum: try to only take one shot. :)

Brilliant series Chris. Makes me feel like I was there.

I'd have had to have moved that cone out of sight on the pier though ;)

I'm still waiting for my film to be returned from AG :bang:

Dean is quite easy to hide behind ;)

You're right about the cone, Suz. Just the sort of thing I always miss! AG seem to average about 8 days, so you should get your film soon.

I made a comment above comparing the M645 Portra 400 with the ME expired E200. This was the Portra at sunrise:

This is the E200, uncorrected scan:

This is the best I can do in correction (-50 on tint in Aperture, temp down to around 3000):

From my memory, the light was between the first and last of these shots (taken minutes apart), perhaps closer to the first. As the light got stronger, the uncorrected E200 scans become even more extreme and hard to deal with. I guess the lesson for me is, don't buy expired transparency film without having a go first. Or maybe not at all. Hmm, now I've probably killed any chance of flogging this lot on the Classifieds!

Have you tried rescanning it with vuescan's colour correction on and calibrating for that particular emulsion? I had a few pinkish slides that it dealt with ok.

Also footle about with vuescan's white balance options as some seem to be better at dealing with weird colours than others.

Just bring your uncorrected sunset in Photoshop and just click on image, then auto color and it's beautiful.

Andy, Chris, some really great images, it looks like it was a grand day out!

Hope one day to get to one of these film meets.

Keep your eye out Adrian, we have some ideas for next year which may interest you....:schtum::whistling:

They were scanned with Kodak Ektachrome in the Color tab; I'm not sure what else you mean by "colour correction"? Previously I have tried using the "faded" option in the Filters tab, but I must admit I didn't think of that this time. One of the annoying things about Vuescan (compaed to Silverfast) is that the various options that affect the outcome are hidden away in at least 3 tabs (Input, Filters and Color, maybe also Output), and I generally forget to adjust (or readjust) one or more of them! On Silverfast they are all on the same window alongside the preview pane.

I did try at least some of the Vuescan white balance options; no major improvements.

You can do a manual colour correction in the colours tab if any of the automatic white balance options don't work

Restore Fading de pinks slides as I used it on some of the 70s ones that had shifted.

AG film arrived back today with puncture marks in several frames. I'm assuming Royal Fail is responsible for the mishandling.

Here are a few from Llandudno:

After the tram I was expecting a wilderness rather than crazy golf:

Even did a semi pointless poorly-stitched panorama... featureless gloomy water and a strangely humped wall.

A strangely humped wall eh! Don't remember that......

Anyway, I like these Suz and I agree the tiny flowers are lovely.

Andy

Hey Suz, the MASSIVE seagull (twice the size of the fence posts) is excellent!

I also agree about the heather and gorse*. Did you use a close-up lens/filter? Effect looks like what I got using mine...

* Side comment on the gorse... when I was walking round the bottom road on the Friday night, I noticed that none of the lower gorse had flowers, but all of the higher gorse, which was also miniature gorse, did have flowers. No idea why!

Ta :) Seagull was strutting about a lot. He's got in the way in several others!

Gorse was taken with a standard 50 mm lens but quite a wide aperture. It seems to focus reasonably closely too. I wonder if lower gorse did have flowers but they perhaps flower earlier as it is warmer so were over already?

Ta :) Flowers look surprisingly prickly. Glad I didn't venture further into them!

I did walk on a sheep path that went through the gorse; I was still getting prickles out of my socks and shoes at bed-time!

Found this: "There are three species of gorse in the UK, which are all very similar: Common Gorse is widespread and mainly flowers form January to June, Western Gorse flowers in later summer and autumn and is mainly found in western parts of the UK; whereas Dwarf Gorse, which also flowers later, is mainly found in the south and east of England and is absent from Ireland."

Now I could make up a reason for Dwarf Gorse migrating from the south and east of England to Great Orme as the "WWII Royal Artillery Coastal School [...] transferred to Llandudno Great Orme from Shoeburyness in 1940". Easy enough for some gorse seeds to get transferred with the equipment! The link above shows some photos of the artillery sites. But, I'm getting way off topic!

Nice set, Nick. Folk need to know that there are actually SEVEN people in that first shot, as we insisted Suz be in it. I'm almost certain I can see her!

I particularly like Mr Snap as a pixie... :)

I appear to be playing an invisible clarinet, never realised I was so talented.

They're all good Nick but I particularly like the shot of the couple on the bench looking out to sea....you know the shot you stole from me.

Andy

That's the best portrait of me I've seen...I'm completely obscured ;)

The brooding sky is has come out much more like how I wanted it but didn't manage

I'm beginning to think that you're my own personal little stalker.....

Oh and gotcha Suz.....just

Better late and all that :)

A small selection, there's a few more on flickr and possibly a couple of others once I get around to developing the B&W films in the fridge. These are on Fuji Reala 100, RZ67 with 110mm f/2.8 lens (although I suspect I may have also used the 50mm a couple of times but it's been so long that I forget on which shots).

I think the roll of slide I was shooting is still in the RB67...

I really like those Dean, super sharp and lovely colours. And you don't see a lot of wildlife shots taken on medium format, kudos for that matey.

Come on Rob, get your finger out lad, all work and no play makes Rob a dull boy. :D
