I run a photography session in a adult day centre for disabled adults ...

i have ran out of ideas of where to take the lads and lasses out on the bus for photography....

anyone got any good places to go... preferably not more than an hour away from Newcastle.

Anywhere around the derwent side walk (including gibside chapel) - you have about 10-15 mile stretch of walk ways with some very easy access points. There are some spectacular points such as 'arched' bridges, landscaped ponds/lakes and of course the 'Red Kite' trail (trail as in 20 foot wide tarmacced path).

Yesterday I visited Thorp Perrow, near Bedale. http://www.thorpperrow.com/

It might be on the 1hour limit from Newcastle but it was a brilliant day out with massive gardens to walk through and the biggest display of birds of prey i'd seen. They had near on 100 birds with numerous daily shows.

Then after that there's the mammal centre with meercats, goats, rabbits, ferrets and more birds.

It had a lot of varying photographic opportunities.

Rabycastle is a good shout as well.

Have a look through theEnglish Heritage sites and i'm sure you'll find some new places to visit.

Never even heard of this place before but looks excellent for a day out with the little fella, thanks!

Went to the Owl Centre at Kirkleatham last week and he throughly enjoyed it, and the wife had fun photographing the birds so an even bigger selection sounds perfect.

I second Belsay. There's a big house, nice grounds, a ruined castle and Jacobean Manor.

Also - Seaton Delaval hall, Wallington hall. Cragside is great but you can't photograph inside the house.

Durham.

About an hour's drive - Bamburgh and Lindisfarne, Craster harbour and nearby Dunstanburgh castle (get down on Embleton Bay beach when the tide is out for some great shots).

as above, some good places

also tyne mouth, south shields beach.
also seaburn beach, I'm off down there this week I think.

Have you been around Newcastle itself? Lots of photogenic locations - the bridges, Sage, Baltic, Grainger Street, Central Arcade, Civic Centre, Centre for Life, Discovery Museum.

thanks for all the ideas i will put them into consideration..

we have been to alot of those locations..

Try Washington wildfowl park.
A good day out with walkways and a cafe, lots of birds.
