NEED INPUT!, where do i start?

1. people photography :- not got the skills or bottle.
2. street photography :- see above
3. urban/decay :- all been pulled down/tidied up.
4. macro/nature :- not got the gear/ all near me just grass or patio slabs
5. landscape :- see number 4.

so as you can see i am really stumped, i have got a minimum amount of gear but need to get out and take pics!, any input/help needed.

Just get out and take pics. It almost doesn't matter what you take photographs of as long as you're having yourself a good time. All of the subjects you mention are good places to start, if you like the subjects.

So....

Stop worrying and start clicking and see what happens. May be the subject will choose you in the end.

shoot your room
shoot your family
shoot your friends

just shoot whatever you can

you'll find little spots that are perfect for pictures

oh and accept your pics will be pants for a fair while when you start out

Architecture? Photos of buildings can be fun. :)

Also, exactly what gear have you got?

Hi Joe, i have only got a nikon D70, with grip, a 28-100mm, a half decent tripod, ml3 remote, so a bit limited, just thinking with camera and tripod maybe travel a bit further for landscapes?.

Look around your house/room. What is happening? Is it messy? tidy? clean? What sort of style do you have? This will give you a clue as to what you are like.

My house is very geometric, straight lines and rigid angles. So when i'm lost for inspiration i'll go out and look for this sort of subject. Patterns, perspective that sort of thing, as i know i like it. Most just end up being deleted, but it got me out there taking pictures again.

28-100mm plenty for photo's of structures. If thats your thing. You don't have to get the whole building in the frame, just pick out interesting aspects

i think at the moment i am stuck at the "i am a noob so i must buy 1000's worth of gear to get a pic" level, totaly wrong i know because i need to understand taking a photo first.

I'm new here myself but I'd say to your 5 points, look again.

1. People - I was shooting in a small group a while back and tried shooting from the hip or just with the camera held loosely down by my side. If you don't wave it around people are more relaxed/natural. Sure there'll be some duff shots but with a wide open frame and plenty of light you should get some interesting stuff (maybe with a little practice).

2 - I don't do this but I'd think that see above would cover it, especially if your not comfortable with it (I wouldn't be).

3 - again it's not my field so to speak but the urban landscape is often about texture, colour and form more than necessarily derelicts or whole structures. Look for interesting patterns etc.

4 - macro/nature - You'd be surprised at what is going on around you. All it takes is patience and a bit of wonder. (ok that may not be entirely true, I don't live in a city, but what I mean is that if you can find a park, graveyard etc there'll be somewhere in it with insect life, birds etc. - don't ignore the grass either, lots of stuff going on in grass) As far as kit goes...it depends what you have, but I've taken nature shots with small compacts and produced stuff I'm happy with. Not up to some of the fantastic stuff I've seen on this forum, but stuff that hits a button for me.)

5. Landscape. It's all around you. If you don't like what you're seeing try experimenting in the post process.

If you don't like what you're seeing, try shooting from different angles. Sometimes, if you're feeling stale or stumped, approaching a shoot from a new avenue can help. Black and white maybe?

Buildings are always make good shots. I was suprised at the amount of churches around my area. There must be over 50 in a 5 mile radius!

I thought the same when I started out photography, I think I tried a little too hard to find things to take pictures of. Just relax, go out in the garden, go for a walk and see what you like the look of.

Photography is very personal in my opinion and what you like the look of might not be to the liking of others so it's very hard for us to tell you what to take pictures of.

Just start snapping
