Hey all,

I need some advice as to who I should insure my camera gear through... I've read others threads after doing a search and am still left a little bit boggled. The general consensus seems to be: avoid E & L and Photoguard, because they don't actually cover you for much in the small print :rules:

I had a chat with Steve Beveridge from CLiiK and the cheapest quote he could do me was £288 a year. Seems pretty pricey, but they seem like a good, honest, trustworthy company. The premium would obviously be cheaper without public liability cover (which I don't really need), but CLiiK don't offer gear-only cover :(

Any help? :)

Home contents insurance is always worth checking out - mine provides cover for ALL my possessions worldwide, for example, no single item limit (other than works of art etc), including accidental damage.

That's more than enough for my kit and as you say, no PL cover etc needed.

CLIIK's prices are good and public liability is no bad thing to have :)

Aaduki's prices are very competitive as well.

Very competitive price!! How reliable are they? No sneaky hidden T&Cs in their small print?

[EDIT] Hmm, I don't like that they won't insure for break-down of equipment...

Aaduki are affiliated to E&L

Just seen protect your bubble offer SLR and lens cover (seperately).
e.g. 7D body only for £6.99 a month...

They get good reviews for their mobile coverage, and you get a discount if you do multiple items...

No idea if they're any good or not though!

That's very expensive....

Very expensive if like me you have a bag fulll of lenses and 2 camera bodies

I use my house contents Insurance from the bank, covers any single item (named) up to £3,000 and accidental is included, cost me an extra £17 pm on top of my original premium

Les

No one insures equipment for general failure.

You get that with a warranty from the manufacturer or a third party (like Mack) but never an insurer.

That would be like Direct Line paying out if your exhaust pipe fell off.

I think photo guard will do it cheaper. £84 a year just for the camera (no lens) seems rather dear though...like a 1in 10 bet that it's going to get broken/stolen that year.

I don't know if he does small amounts of kit, but maybe give Steve from Cliik insurance a bell. Does me great cover for a good chunk less than my old insurer (though that's for full professional kit, public liability and more)

My home insurance is the same. I use Hiscox.
