Hi all,

I'm looking at buying a spare battery for my D80.

I've found some non OEM versions on places like ebay etc but seem to remember seeing a warning that said that D70 and D80 batteries are different. The advert I've seen for a well priced battery says its for the 70, 80 and 200 etc. Would such a battery damage my camera?

Has anyone ever bought any spare D80 batteries? Some advice would be very welcome.

Regards,

Comus

basically, a D80 and D200 run the same battery [EN-EL3e] and that battery will also work in a D70. A D70 original [EN-EL3] will NOT work in a D200/D80.

I have a 70 and 200 and have three non nikon batteries bought from fleabay - all work perfectly, last as long as the nikon originals and have cause no problems whatsoever in over 2 years of use.

Ah, that makes sense.

Thanks a lot LadyLens.

Here you go, as long as you get the one on the right, you should be ok.

:agree: never had any problems with Ebay EN-EL3es. The only ones to avoid are the fake Nikon-branded ones. I don't know if they are any worse than the unbranded ones (probably the same), they just charge more for them. Basically if it is being sold as an OEM Nikon battery but seems just too cheap then it's more than likely a fake - imagine that fakes on Ebay, who'd have thunk it

My HK knockoff lasts longer than my original one - nothing wrong with 3rd party batteries as long as you get them from a reputable source.

The genuine Nikon batteries are getting quite cheap now, why bother risking it? I picked up a genuine Nikon battery for my D80 last time I was in America, it cost me $28, or £14 as it was then!

It's all about the mAh rating for battery life. I've got Canon's so the Canon BL511 have a rating of 1350mAh and my sterlingtek (AMAZING batteries http://sterlingtek.com/) ones have a rating of 2100mAh!

I bought 2 batteries from ebay 1600mAh for £12 delivered I thought it was cheap but for that kind of money its worth a go they work just as good as the originals

You have to be wary of claimed mAh ratings on the HK/Ebay batteries. A lot of the sellers claim unrealistic figures, although this can be handy for spotting fake AA and AA batteries as some of them get carried away with themselves and "invent" batteries that don't exist  I'd take any non-oem rating with a pinch of salt if it comes from Ebay....

I think for the difference in price I would prefer to get the genuine Nikon item. We spend Hundreds if not thousands on equipment and baulk at £26.00, saying that I have done the same and bought a Tamron lens instead of the Nilkon one (and very happy with the Tamron).

You can generally pick up a couple for a tenner at 7dayshop. I've now got 4 bought that way from them and they work just fine. A good aftermarket battery is at least as good as a genuine one, the only thing missing is the brand name tax.

Thanks a lot for the advice everyone.

Now the proud owner of a 7dayshop account. Now, lets have a look at some lenses.
