I used to be a fan of Sony Vegas which I found simple to use but still powerful when you needed it but when it went down the pan, I've been trying to use Davinci Resolve for years now but while it's clearly powerful and it's free I just don't seem to get on with it.

I'm curious what video editing software (Windows) people here use especially given there's more likely to be those with a photography mindset rather than video. I'm not needing to do anything advanced, just usually stick a few clips onto a timeline, some transitions, fade in/out and pans/zooms but that's it really.

Not done a lot with it, but I'm ging Shotcut Editor a go, my biggest regret is that Serif stopped support for MoviePlus with later versions of Windows, it was so powerful and easy to use.
I use Shotcut on my work PC and it's very good. I've put it on my Mac too, as I find it easier to use than iMovie.

I used Video Pad for many years before switching over to Resolve. Iif i'm just wanting a simple edit I still use it as its quicker than Resolve for a basic edit.
At £60 for the home version (only has 2 soundtracks) its a nice cheap one off cost.

Video Pad

I use Clipify since it seems to be the only option that works fine on my fairly old PC, without lagging or crashing issues. I don't do complicated editing, so I'm quite satisfied with the tools they have.

VSDC free and intuitive to use

I understand you want to move away from DaVinci resolve as it may seem daunting... trust me, i was the same! I was a Final Cut Pro guy and downloaded DaVinci..just couldn't get on with it. But after watching videos on YT about how powerful it is, I decided to learn the basics... and believe me, it is SIMPLE (if we are talking about simple compiling, cutting, arranging and adding sounds). I refuse to go back to Final Cut now.
However, looking at some of the more advanced features such as the colour grading, fusion, and to some extent the audio tab, this i agree can take some time to get to grips with, but not impossible, I still open up youtube to quickly check how to do something and it's usually straight forward, just seems complex because it is something new.

It's not so much daunting it's just I've come to realise it's not for me, some software you really click with and it suits your way of thinking and some software you just don't. I've been trying to use Davinci Resolve for years now and it just doesn't click with me which in turn puts me off it, I used to really enjoy video editing with Vegas and it made sense to me - I want to get back to enjoying video work instead of avoiding it because I dislike it.

Davinci for me. I'd buy the full version if I had the money. Keep learning it and you won't uninstall it.
