There was a brilliant thread started earlier in the week about a photographers experience doing a wedding at the weekend.

In this they mentioned about having 3 wooden umbrellas for use if it rained - I thought this was a Great idea!!! So it got me thinking.....

We've had the "what camera?", "how many backups?", "what lens?", "You need 1 million Gb of storage" etc. etc. threads loads recently, but what more unusual stuff do you pack into the boot of your car or your camera bag.

I've started a list of things I think I will need.

Umbrellas - Black for groomsmen, white for bride
Small set of step ladders
Tissues
Spare clothes
Laptop
Hard Disk Backup
Redbull (or other non specific energy drink)
Snack Bars

Can anyone help my out by adding to the list?

When I shoot on soft ground I always take a small piece of board for the bride to stand on especially if she is wearing high heeled shoes. Stops her sinking in and can easily (usually) be hidden by the dress.

I tell you what, this would be an even better thread if you broadened it to all sorts of 'official or professional' events, not just weddings, so people could say for instance, I do Weddings and I take X, Y and Z, or I do location portrait shoots and I take A, B and C, for sports I take....etc etc...

Weddings:
Plasters - one cut to size for the AF/MF button on my 70-200 so I can't knock it on to MF by accident!
Leatherman
Mints
Deodorant (in the car just in case ;-))
Tissues
Spare shirt in case I spill something down me

Random things I've thought about recently:
- Monopod and remote switch so I can hold the camera high up in the air and take a shot
- I've put a little sticker on the top of my tripod that says IS to remind me to switch IS off as I put the camera on the tripod (though I rarely use it).

forgot one key one - insurance certifiicates. about 1/2 of my local venues won't let you in without seeing your PL certificate. Boring I know- essential part of kit for wedding? certainly

Weddings,

Blanket for bride (and groom) to sit on (damn birds lol)
Photo list
GPS

Puzzled by this one - can I ask why?

sure - it makes a good background for the classic 'ring casting a heart shaped shadow' shot and some of the passages in Corinthians seem good for this.

Decent looking pen for the signing the register shots. fountain pen that has never been filled with ink might be good

Interesting, with the exception of deodorant and Red Bull I take none of the above to a wedding. I've plenty enough camera gear to worry about.

Even more interesting - I don't take deodorant or Red Bull either

But I do have plasters, a knife, change for car parks & a bin liner in case I want the couple to sit on something wet

Oh, and my 'lucky brollies' - bought 2 years ago and so far NEVER NEEDED

:D

they sound good - fancy giving one away and seeing if the luck works down here too??:lol:

Free indeed - with every £10,000 gift to me ;)

You don't let brollies like these leave your hands lightly :shake:

Bin bags,(I can lie on those if I need to on a wet day and just throw them out) sewing kit (and yes it has been used) Cereal bars and something to drink.

One mate has a box of sunglasses for the grooms' party if it's a bright day. Stops them all squinting and you can do that "Reservoir dogs" shot if you shoot from low and get them all to walk towards you. Not done it myself but some like a giggle.

My other absolute must have is a band for my hair, I have longish hair and it blows everywhere in anything like a breeze and I hate it on a windy day. I might look forward to a bride's veil flying but it's no good if I can't see it!

tissues and baby wipes. I had the pleasure of dealing with 3 bridesmaids in whites dresses, after skinning my knuckle. Bled too much for a plaster, so the tissues took the wrap. Appreciate that I was minding them, but blood anywhere near a dress would be a disaster.

Babywipes to clean the kids faces.....

off camera flash and my boyfriend to hold it :) lens cleaner and cloth.

Spare clean shrit and trousers, wipes and deoderant for a freshen up if needed, first aid kit, gaffer tape, lots of business cards, change for car parking, needle and thread for running repairs to your or others clothes, 2 mobile phones on different networks (different coverage if you break down in the middle of nowhere) binbags.

odd. weve never been asked.

ahs anyone mentioned the travel/picnic rug for the bride to sit on, if benches/grass/whatever are damp?
kitchen towel, rather than tissues.
much more absorbant.
even handed a sheet to a rather emotional groom last weekend.
my wife always takes along a ME to weddings.
usefull in allsorts of situations.
a pen in every coat, and a notepad in at least one camera bag.

Safety pins. I used to take spare film and batteries for guests too just in case, amazing how helpful they suddenly became :-)
